Hey all,

Unfortunately, I managed to spill Blackcurrent over my bedside last night and it got a bit of my iPhone...

Since then, my iPhone refuses to charge or connect via USB :(

I've never had to place an appointment with an "Apple Genius" before, so I assume I just book the appointment and go along at the arranged time...

Does anyone have any idea what I could expect to face price wise? Is there any chance they'll just swap it over? Or is going to see an Apple Genius the best way to get this sorted?

Thanks,

Marky

Just tell them its randomly stopped working ? Miss out the blackcurrent bit. Nothing wrong with a white lie.

To be honest - I was considering this :p

My iPhone is jailbroken... Do I need to restore my iPhone before I take it in?

My power button stopped working properly, it didn't make a clicking noise and seemed stiff. Took it into an Apple store and was told by the guy that served me that because it was mechanical they couldn't open it or anything so they would just have to give me a new one, which they did.

Just make sure there is no vivable blackcurrent and take it in, should just do a straight swap.

I would restore it if i was you, i'm not sure what would actually happen if they noticed it was jailbroken but i'd rather not risk it.

I would be open and honest about spilling juice on your phone to be honest. They will know for sure that there has been liquid damage the moment they open it up/examine it through the ports (liquid sensors will have discoloured). You'll gain nothing by withholding the information. In my experience Apple Genius's appreciate you being honest with them. They spend a significant amount of their time dealing with people trying to scam a free repair, they'll have all the necessary canned responses ready for you. In my opinion you're more likely to get them to go out of their way to help you by being genuine. Thats just my opinion though.

an underboss telling a white lie, tut tut tut! :p

nah should be fine without been restored. :)

Haha whoops :p

Good to hear though :) Unfortunately, I had to use it for work today and now it's completely run out of battery, so there is no way I'll be able to restore it now anyway :p

Excellent news :) I'll let you know how it goes :) Got a reservation for Sunday afternoon :)

Jailbreaking voids warranty as far as I know. Restore it just so they don't have another excuse to refuse.

Battery is completely dead now so I'll have to bring it in jailbroken anyway - The worst I imagine they'll do is say they can't work on it further, but by then they would have it up and running so I can take it home, remove the jailbreak and come back again later :p

I've been inside an iPhone before and know about the liquid sensors - As far as I know the blackcurrent didn't spill to far into the phone, so I'm hoping they didn't reach the sensors... I guess there is only one way to find out :p

Another quick question...

I'm bringing it in on Sunday afternoon... if I get there and they just replace it no questions asked... what happens to the data on my current phone? Do they delete it in front of you? :/

Will they be able to transfer the data over to the new phone? I haven't made a backup in a while

You need to restore it. If it's jailbroken they will refuse to do anything. They suggest you make a backup and restore it prior to going in but they will do a reset in front of you. If you insist of saving your data they will send you home to back it up and make another appointment. But as stated if the device is JB they will refuse to service it and hand it back regardless.

I can't restore it! As I said, the phone is now completely dead :p They won't know it's jailbroken until they get it up and running, and by then I will be able to remove the jailbreak and come back later :p
