Apple genuine bumper (black) - fits well, nice identical metal buttons that work, openings for dock connector silent switch and headphone jack are all in the right place!
At £26 it is pricey though, and the back is open, so some care is needed

eBay £2 black/clear bumper... Had one on my old 4 too, lasts and fits much better than the official overprice Apple bumper
Steer well away from the Apple bumpers. They're simply not worth the money.
I personally have a Speck Candyshell. Perfect case in my opinion. The buttons are all covered, provides great protection, has soft internals that prevent the phone from being scratched, as well as having internally perforations to further prevent this.
The only issue that I could claim is with the flaking on the side, but it isn't that big a deal for me anymore.
Only problem is that the only place I'd really buy one from is Apple, merely because you're very likely to receive an older model if you buy elsewhere.

I have the Griffin Survivor case in black, and I bought the pink version for the GF, I like the chunky feeling in my hand and better grip, without a case it just doesn't feel safe in my hands haha
I've just been on eBay to look for a case. I'm undecided between a bumper to use in conjunction with my existing Apple sock, or a leather case. Having looked, it's quite difficult to make a decision on one, there are quite literally thousands to choose from!

I had a hard back case on my iPhone 4 had it on for a yer went sell it took case off and found silver bessel scratch as hell so it hard decide for the 4s
I ordered the Incase Slider yesterday from Ebay and it came this morning. I love it just as much as the 3GS version I used to have. Can't see why I would buy any other case, it fits perfectly, feels much more expensive than it is, and looks great.
I have seen the odd report of that, but there are more people that seem happy with it. I just decided to give it a chance, as I loved the 3GS version so much.
