Orange (comes up as EE ) is currently my network on a sim only plan but yesterday I bought an O2 nano sim to see what the signal is like in my area. I changed the sim cards fine and I got a decent O2 signal ( I had to download an APN update for the O2 sim card).

But I put my orange sim card back in (worked fine before using the O2 sim card) and the internet connection via 3G doesn't work. I get 3G signal but twitter/safari doesnt load a page at all.

I've tried downloading APNs from unlockit.nz but it doesnt seem to change anything.

I got an update for EE carrier settings a few months ago (the version shows as 13.2 in the settings page). I have tried plugging it into itunes but that doesnt find an update.

Should I update to 6.1 and see what that does? Or try a full restore?

Any help much appreciated!

Reset your network settings. Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Note that you will lose all your saved Wi-Fi networks and whatnot, so you'll need to enter these again.
