Heya,

It is time to get a new handset to replace my iPhone 3GS which I had since 2009

The phones I am looking at are the iPhone 5s, the Nexus 5 and the LG G2. These are the prices I can get them for:

iPhone 5s 500 Euros
Nexus 5 190 Euros
LG G2 200 Euros

I never had an Android phone but from all the reviews I've watched it looks like a very solid OS. I am really liking the "clean" 4.4 version found on the Nexus 5.

iOS 7 looks interesting too, unfortunately I don't know how much better it is from iOS 6 which I have on my 3GS. I am not a big fan of iOS 6.

I don't really care about camera and multimedia use. What I do care about is size and I think that the Nexus 5 and G2 might be too big for me (coming from a 3.5 screen). I can't find the Nexus 5 to test it but I might be able to get my hands on a G2.

Anyways, which one would you recommend? I will be ordering one of these in the next couple of weeks unless something new is around the corner. Any suggestions?

There's the upcoming Galaxy S5, Xperia Z2 and the HTC "M8" which should be announced/launched within a couple of months, but I would expect them to be around the 5s price.

The Nexus 5 is a high end phone for a really good price so I would go for that. The large size may feel too big at first but over time you'll get use to it.

I am leaning towards the Nexus 5, it's really cheap and I'd like to try Android too... Either one will obviously be a huge upgrade for me, the 3GS is so slow lol.

This sums it up really. Out of the ones there, I'd take the N5 without any hesitation.

Don't worry about the size, pretty much the only people who say the phone is too big to use are those who haven't used it. I was worried myself as I've fairly small hands, but I have no problems using it at all, even with one hand.

What's the camera like on the N5?

Mine's a lot better than my S4 was in low light, and pretty similar in good lighting conditions. Obviously a lower resolution though.

It tends to do well in reviews, not the absolute best, but still a very good camera. But to be honest, unless you're really analysis the photos side by side then most of the top phones are pretty similar currently for basic photography.

Nexus 5, I've just picked myself one up today after I gave my first one to the missus cause she loved it, I used her iPhone for a while absolutely hated it glad I'm back to the nexus 5 the only thing I got get used to now is that the volume is on the left as I keep pressing the power button thinking its the volume.

Isn't the G2 effectively the same phone as the N5 but with a larger capacity battery?
If that's the case, for 10€ more, might be worth considering?

I'm a big N5 fan, even after only a couple of weeks ownership. But sounds a good price for the G2?

The G2 does hold a few advantages over the N5. Mainly the battery, camera, and slightly larger screen. However, stock android and instant updates are a big selling point for the N5.

The main one for me though, is that the 32GB G2 isn't available, making it not an option at all. Obviously this might not be an issue for the OP though...

Another recommendation for the N5, forget the 5S and of course there's looking to be the S5 announced next month. But for performance/price which what I was looking at, I went for the N5.

If you a "clean" phone, then I would also suggest keeping an eye on the Moto X which get's a decent review here:

However, looks like it's gonna be pricey.

I went from 4s to nexus 5. The hand fit is perfect, its a lovely phone and compared to the 4s screen the one on the nexus 5 is fantastic.

I then went to Galaxy note 3 but realised I don't want to spend that kind of money / commit to a 24 month contract so am going back to a nexus 5!

The 5s has a better camera and speakers both things you don't care about. The bigger size sometimes makes one handed use difficult but you get used to it pretty fast and adjust to compensate, and it's nice to have a bigger screen for some things, the nexus 5 seems the best choice.

The 5S is only really worth it if you can attribute the value to its cost (ie. iCloud integration with Macs, use of iTunes, etc.) and you prefer iOS. Little point in spending the extra money on it if it doesn't offer any benefits. Regardless of whether you think the 5S is better or not, it likely won't justify spending nearly twice the money (just noticed you've listed prices, in this case nearly three times the money). Personally prefer the 5S, but at the end of the day they're different devices with different merits.

The Moto X is too expensive when the Nexus 5 is around, IMO. Nexus 5 seems like the best bet to me.

The N5 is smaller which I like and also since it will be my first Android phone I think a clean OS without LG's stuff will be a better option for me. Also, I think the N5 looks better.

I moved from a 5S to a Nexus 5 and haven't looked back.

Awesome, may I ask why you didn't like the 5S?

I just became bored of the strict apple rules, I'd had the iPhone 4,4s,5 and 5s so the shape and style were boring me :) such a nice change moving to Android, so much variety and customisation, it's just a nicer phone to use :)
