iPhone 6 broken screen or phone

A colleague of mine had her iPhone crap out on here a few days ago, wouldn't respond or turn on. I tried a hard reset which worked. However she had the same problem this morning. A hard reset doesn't work. The strange thing is I plugged the phone in my PC and it appeared in Explorer showing the phone as an external drive, which I presume it would not do while the phone is off? We have tried ringing it, it does ring but the phone doesn't make any sound, light or vibrations (could be on silent). So my best guess is the screen? Could it be anything else? Any suggestions we could do before taking it further?

Does the phone appear in itunes ?

I can't test that easily as none of these work computers allows the installation of an app. I tried turning it on and off whilst plugged into the PC and it did appear/disappear accordingly.

I would guess that if it was just the screen then it would still ring when called. Sounds more like a logic board issue to me, although the first thing I would try now would be a restore via itunes.

Would the phone still turn on and be picked up in Explorer if it was a logic board issue?

Depends on what's failed.

iTunes is your best bet to see if the iOS AP is running.
