What is the entry level 6 going to be? The 4.7" model? I've only read about 4.7" and 5.5" so is there no more 4" model?

The 5S/5C will be the 4" option I imagine, if they have a 4" iPhone 6 it will make for even more options and be confusing for the customer. Especially considering the prospect of an even bigger 5.5" being added the line up.

Perhaps they'll move the innards of the 5S into the 5C and have only the colourful entry level 4" 5S model, then the 4.7" iPhone 6 and a top end 5.5" iPhone 6?

Some interesting info about the new software enabled camera features that will be avialable with iOS8

In fact, German carrier Deutsche Telekomhas been telling Apple blog Apfelpage.de that the iPhone 6 will be released on 19 September, after being unveiled by Apple on 9 September, which seems like a safe guess to us.

I'm guessing they'll keep the iPhone 5C handset but bump it to the 5s specs, and discontinue the 5s completely.

iPhone 6 then at 4.7 and 5.5 as the only two sizes.

Any information on when there will be an announcement? :).

Most rumours put the release as autumn. Traditionally they've had events around the first and second week of September with a bit of a lead (1 week) before launch, so mid September is a good bet.

Why would they lose though?

It only costs a couple of pounds to Apple between 16Gb to 32Gb to 64Gb etc. They can still charge the extortionate amount between 32/64/128 sizes, maybe even more.

Actually, a base 32Gb would mean more money from iCloud backups.

A few pounds from 50million sell is a lot, and there main market is still the US where phones are $200.

Anyone think they will shift to 32/64/128 memories this time? I have a feeling in my water about it.

I've been hoping for this since the 4S. I think if/when they do it, it will be on an S update rather than a new model.

Will they keep the 5C in the lineup and drop its price even further (currently £429, although initial launch price was £469)

That price drop was only because they introduced an 8gb 5C early at £429, the 16gb is still £469

8GB on a modern smartphone at £429 is a just slap too the face. I understand if it costs £100, its just really not enough, I have 9GB of Apps alone on my device now, then a few GBs of photos and videos I've taken, some media. For most people 8GB would be a real challenge, and simple things like updating software could become a problem.

Right you are! I just took a look at an old article on the web to check release prices and there was no mention of an 8GB version. In that case wow, its still crazy expensive at £429 for something that's crippled by so little memory.

This happened to a family member who takes lots of photos with a dslr and uploads them direct to her older ipad using an adapter. Completely skips using the computer and edits and emails them to friends all on the iPad. Problem is she had gotten so used to this she hadn't used her desktop in over a year and didn't know how to backup the photos off of the iPad, which ran out low on space pretty quick when uploading high res images from a dslr.

iCloud would have been good, but she lives in the mountains and gets about 2Mbps, so online backup isn't a good option either. I think she was still on iOS4 or 5 when I went to visit her at Christmas and backed up all her stuff for her using a real computer in order to free up enough space to upgrade to iOS7.

The high res photos and video are only going to get bigger with each new generation of device. They must have taken receipt of a ton of 8GB chips for cheap to introduce an 8GB version. Edit: Looks like they did it to try and shift more devices as it wasn't selling well

What a step backward. It was always too closesly priced to the 5S to make financial sense to buy anyway. I guess it's the only way they could have dropped the price though without ****ing off customers who bought the 16GB model closer to launch. They really need to drop the 16GB version to at most £400 though, probably closer to £350 if they really want it to sell. They're not known for their big price drops though, even on old models.

Quite like it, nice clean design.

But for if the battery is terrible in it I won't be touching it with a barge pole. In this day an age a phone should be lasting a minimum of 24hrs with moderate use.

This entirely depends on what you are classing as moderate use.

A couple of hours of GPS sat-nav will kill any phone. Playing games for 3hrs will make a huge dent in the battery life. In fact, anything using cellular, bluetooth or the screen will drain the battery fast, if persistent and brightness is high on the screen.

If you're hammering Facebook or LinkedIn, the battery life will suffer.

Whereas a few texts and 1-2 3min phone calls, with 4-5 email pushes from server will last 3 days easily.

Thats one extreme from the other. Also, I couldn't imagine anything worse than gaming for 3hrs straight on a phone :p

My phone gets used on and off throughout the day with texts, whatsapp, phone calls and web/email. I've never gamed on a phone, I hate it. So basically I use my phone as a phone with a bit of internet thrown in.

My Lumia 920 will last me a day and a half doing this. My iPhone 4 and 4S I had to charge twice a day doing so.

It annoys me that anything 'cellular' will dent the battery massively, which is saying that if you use your phone, as a phone...it'll kill the battery.

Nokia resolved the issue by putting large high capacity batteries in their phones and having clever software to switch stuff off as the battery deteriorates. I've always said I'd have a thicker phone for the sake of a big battery to be able to do what a phone should do. My iPhone would be at 80% by the time I got into the office after being off charge for 2 hours which is frankly, ridiculous...and that was just from an initial email check and listening to music while reading on the Kindle.

I'm not having a go at Apple, I love their products...but the battery life is key here. If they have crammed an awesome battery into that phone and made iOS8 much more energy efficient then they'll be onto a winner for a lot of people.

I wish they'd keep it the same thickness as the 5, but with a bigger battery. I wouldn't like the phone to be much thinner!

Out, out, damned troll!

Not at all, I've had various iphones over the years. Just got fed up with same old same old.

Even the famed apple build quality was poor on my last iPhone 5.

Apple really need to up their game and I hope they do with the new ones. Competition is only good for end users.

Yeah, I've been using a 5S over the last few weeks and that small screen is rubbish! :D A large 1st gen iPhone? Nice! Hopefully it's not too expensive.

The move to 28nm had a big impact on battery life, it's unfair to compare those old iPhones with 45nm/65nm parts.

Performance has greatly improved since over the last year too, the 4.7" iPhone 6 could double the battery life your seeing with the 920 (20nm modem/transceiver with envelope tracking etc. Wonder if the the SoC still 28nm?)

Build quality "bad" on an iPhone 5? Which devices have a higher build quality? :o
