If I'm honest having gone from being lucky to get gprs to having slow(faster than my home broadband) 4G pretty much all the time I'm chuffed.

Only reason I've stuck with O2 is I've never had a dropped call with them. Just data that sucks.

I was hoping to be able to use my 4G instead of mobile broadband when I'm travelling with work, but with this speeds I'm reconsidering.

Guest2, that's a 6 not a 6+ right? Very impressive if it's a 6!

I held both today and it's proving to be a tough choice. I think the 6 is probably going to win though just because it'll be more manageable.

Correct. iPhone 6
Not been sparing either - facebook, videos, tethering etc. no background refresh and manual fetch email, constant half brightness

Have you found that you don't need your brightness as high on the 6? Mine seems much brighter than my 5 and I don't have it above a third.

Yep. I thought it was my eyes!

Its a touch below half actually and seems brighter tgan my iphone 5 on a touch above half

whats this new obsession with battery life? people turning almost everything off, big deal just use the phone for what it is.

can it really be a mobile if you have to keep it hooked up on charge all the time :D. Those halcyon days when a mobile only needed charged twice a week. To be serious I think its ridiculous that battery tech has not been pushed on this, software is for me anyway good enough and who really needs half the features when most folk spend most of their time on FB or twitter.

This. Battery life has never been on obsession until smart phones came along and battery life went from 5-7 days to 1 or 2 days at very tops. Understandable with big screens, videos, 3g, 4g etc. but batteries tech never got better to cope with this

Nothing turned off except for what I need and that doesn't rinse battery like background app refresh.

Because if I use it for what it is, without turning off features, it lasts half a day and I want it to last a whole day?

Strange, when I first put my 6 on full brightness where I like it I thought it was a little dimmer than my 5 was, then I put them side by side and they are actually identical.

Well i have just cancelled my 6 plus 64gb order after the case turned up first!

It was a bit of an impulse purchase through work and i have decided its insanely huge and nobody needs a phone that big

Going to wait for them to get in the shops and then have a look or order a normal one, i have a galaxy s5 so i am hardly in poverty land..

Ground the battery into the floor. Best I have ever seen on any iPhone (or smartphone come to that)

Permanently connected to 4G (no Wifi connection and its faster than works Wifi)

That is pretty much identical the performance I am getting from my 6. You just have an extra hour of use and me an extra hour of standby (my pic is a page or so back).

I think I could get more out of mine but I am working all week on a site with near zero signal on o2 and I dont have email, messages, facebook or any program that I use on manual refresh. Annoyingly people on EE come into my office at this site and get 3G though!!

:D

I am not sure how other IP models compare as I have been away from Apple for a number of years now, but my 6 beats my Nexus 4 and my previous Galaxy S2 into the dirt for battery performance. And it is so thin! Really happy with mine :) The only phones I have had recently with better battery are Blackberry devices, but to be fair they have been work phones and only really get used for emails and a few calls.

I only turn off the stuff I don't need or want. For example, as default the phone and various apps track your location constantly which I neither need or want them to do, so I stopped them doing it. Likewise, there are quite a few other background 'behaviours' I do not want.

Why should I let them run when I do not want or need them to when the phone does everything I do want and need it to do with them disabled?

It also means I get double the battery performance, so surely it is a no brainer?

The reason why battery performance is a hot topic is because it is an issue for all modern smartphones because the phone (particularly the screen) technology is moving faster than the battery technology. It is a topic of discussion for the IP6 because of how thin the phone is, and the fact that previous customers have been put off by reports of poor battery life on other models. So it is hardly a 'new' obsession, whichever way you want to cut it :)
