Ok so I know what I did was silly but today was the first time I got it wet and I was under the impression it's got an ip67 rating? So you can submerge up to 1m for 30 minutes?

Well all I did was take it out of its case and run it under the cold tap for about 10 seconds! As it was dirty.

Made sure sim tray was fully in to.

And now it's been playing up all day so I opened it up.

lol

Take a look!

Great.... will try me luck at Apple Store but know what the boys will say when they see the pink slit

ran it under the cold tap what a plonker

Apple have literally made a TV ad highlighting it's water resistance and showing a cyclist mounting it to his bike to go out cycling in a thunderstorm.

A few seconds under the tap shouldn't be an issue. Although I'd still be hesitant to do it seeing as they still don't cover water damage.

I would have taken it to apple before I opened it up. They don't cover water damage because that would be like saying to everyone "if you break your phone just submerge it in water for a few hours to get water inside and we will replace it".

I assume that if running it under a tap damaged it then the water tight seal was faulty. They may be able to see this when they open it up. Now that you have done that however your warranty is void.

It's part of the specifications that it's IP67 so you could have returned it to Apple. Obviously opening it up afterwards makes that null and void though.

well be surprised if they can see that i've opened it. im booked in for next saturday for them to swap it. Ill post a pic of my shiny new one then.

Did you have a sim card in it? Just trying to work out how water got in near the sim slot even though the sim tray was sealed? Maybe it needs a sim card in to seal it properly?

finally someone that sees it how i do. 10seconds under the tap was being generous really it was more like 3/4 seconds

I don't think anyone is debating whether you should have had an issue running it under the tap, you shouldn't. The problem is if they can tell you have cracked it open that won't matter. That voids the warranty and would also make them suspicious about why you would do that.

Apple are usually pretty good about things like this but you have to understand that some people would try to pull a fast one to get a new phone if they damaged it by exceeding the spec.

It should be said there is a difference between submerging under 1m of water and spraying water at something. Not surprised water got in.

The pressure of the water is around 1.1 bar at 1m (compared to atmosphere of 1), water comes out of the tap far higher.

Water jets are a lower rating from an IP point of view.

Technically he's done nothing wrong having this under the tap.

Even though the manufacturer claims it's water proof, there's no way I'd risk getting it wet on purpose. Who tries to clean an electronic device under the tap?

Someone expecting their waterproof electronic product to be exactly that

I've ran my Xperia Z3 under the tap multiple times and answered calls in the shower and such
