iPhone battery life, workarounds?

The iphone is basically a daily charger I find it funny that people say turn off certain services, these are the very functions people were shouting about not being on the original iphone.

I have yet to hit the last 20% during the course of a day, I always charge it overnight. My only concern is how long is the battery going to last being charged daily.

I read somewhere it last for 500 full charges (really depleted), and its best to discharge fully once a month and keep it topped up to full once it gets to about 40-60%

Maybe I'll sign up for AppleCare. Might be worth it as they'll change your battery for nothing for 2 years. Standard cost to change a battery is £62 and I think AppleCare is £30-40. Reckon there's a strong chance I'll wear out the battery within 2 years if that 500 figure is accurate... plus I'll have the peace of mind of being covered for other breakages.

Can you get Apple Care for the iPhone? I can't see it on the Apple site.

Going to have your iPhone for two years? Sod that, just get the upgrade when the new one comes out. Won't be long I bet.

You can only buy an iPhone at a phone reseller or at an exclusive carrier. In the UK, this is O2. So I think that you can only use insurance of a carrier, because it can't be bought from the online Apple Store.

But you can buy it from a physical Apple store.

I'm planning to build a MintyBoost v2.0 powered by 4xAA NiMH rechargeables and stick it in some sort of tin. I have the main component which is the boost converter IC but I just need to find the time to order the parts and etch a PCB for it. It wouldn't be an everyday use thing but I would keep it in my backpack for those times I need to extend the battery.
