I have a 2G (1st gen) iPhone on OS 3.0.1 and I'm concerned that my battery isn't lasting as long as it once did, I'm getting about a day out of it before I need to recharge, my usage reads 2hrs 43min and it looks like I'm at about 30% left, is this right?

That sounds a bit low - I can normally get 5-6 hours of internet-type usage out of my 3G before having to recharge. Do you have push notifications or push email turned on?

Updating to OS 3.1 improved my battery life quite a bit as well.

Could my battery just be getting tired?

how long have you had it? Li-Ion batteries can only be expected to survive about 300 to 500 charge cycles before reaching 50% capacity.

I got it when O2 were clearing stock of old 2g iPhones to make room for the 3g ones, I can't remember when that was.

Iv found recently a lot of new app updates now have push integration, and my battery life has deteriorated rapidly. Although I have a 3G, im sure it'll be the same with you. (I found the eBay app particularly battery intensive)

...but yeah I agree with Aod, the battery may just be getting tired. I mean we all know what iPod batteries are like. If it gets really bad, take into into an apple store an try and wangle a replacement. Iv heard some stores (i think its all a matter of stock numbers) giving spanking condition refurb'd 2G replacements no questions asked.

So to some up..Check Push apps...also turn off Wifi when your not needing it...and go to the apple store :)
