Had my iphone 3GS for just over a week now and its been charged about 10 times, which is about 4 times as much as my last phone. I get that im using this a lot more but its getting silly, at least once a day for a full charge, 2 if i've been playing the odd game for an hour, so what are the options?

What battery does the iphone have in? I've seen some 1600mAh batteries for £7 on the bay, while I'm sure the iphone only comes with a 1100 or 1000mAh as standard. For £7 the extra would be worth it but does this affect warranty? And will that matter on a Monthly contract (if something mechanical happens to the phone i'd declare it as lost anyway and claim like that)

I've also seen very expensive packs built in cases, which make the phone bulky or plug in batteries which you carry around in case it dies.

I'd prefer it upgrade the battery inside to something close to double the standard battery and that would make this the perfect phone as right now am having to carry my charger everywhere with me.

Ta.

Putting different battery in ur iphone will of course void your warranty.

You might want to upgrade to 3.1.3 which has an improved battery life for 3GS included, and reports it is working are very good.

dont no what your doing to drain it so fast, i can get 2 days out of it with wifi on and brightness to half with 3 or 4 hours of gaming, web use per day.

My brightness is below half, though i've left on the auto adjust settings.

It's at 3.1.3.

Shame about the warranty voiding, any clue on the capacity of the standard battery?

from what i've read in the thread, for what you want, i don't think there are any realistic options that will help :(.

the other day i've found that the apps can make a difference, for msn i've gone from using ebuddy to im+ lite (and gone on to buy im+) due to the difference in battery usage.

ebuddy required a charge before noon, im+ / lite would get to mid afternoon without needing a charge.

I bought a tek net charger that you plug into the bottom off it, it will give my iphone two full charges, its not ideal, but if on a trip or anything like that, it means i can watch films or game on a decent flight. Was only about £13.

How long does it take to charge or do you just leave it in the bottom?

I don't have any social apps running, push for mail is off, it really is just browsing away on the net and the odd game that's killing me.

Such a shame, everything else about the phone (bar the average sounding ipod) is 10/10

Turn off 3G. In WiFi options tell it not to ask you about connecting to every WiFi signal it finds.

In email settings set Fetch to 30minutes or more [or even manual]. Also turn off location services [until you need it].

This should help with your battery life, though to be honest the iPhone battery is pants. I don't care what features the next iPhone has as long as they put in a battery that will let you do everything they say can be done without being semi-permanantly attached to the charging lead.

Turning of location services, the 3G and connecting to wifi's has seemed to have a good effect or the phone, i even ended the day with juice left in it, and i only did this part way through the day.

Could be a combo of everything (and probably is) but the best settings so far.

3.1.3 does not improve your battery life, it only reports the battery level more accurately.

3.1.3 was also only released to try and flush out all the latest jailbreak hacks prior to the next big software release. (very shrewd move on Apples part)

Hi Guys

Firstly sorry to hop in on this thread but its relevant to me so hope you don't mind...

Had my 3Gs exchange @ Apple Milton Keynes last Saturday as it use to go to sleep and not wake up at random times, they exchanged it with a (apparently) new device which came out of a brown padded box, it appears as though this device has a duff battery as it was on 70% this morning when I left home and sitting on my desk not the 20% warning just appeared and I have only made a few calls and BT is off & push is set to 30 mins and search wifi is off too...

That's not right is it? My other handset used to last a day maybe 2 without a full charge?

Take it back again I suppose?

Best of taking it back gain mate.

Aren't the brown boxes used for refurbs?
