Iphone 3g screen is just showing white with two black lines down the centre, i take it this is a broken Lcd rather than anything else?
Anyone recommend any of the postal repair services.

Thanks for site.
but def the lcd panel, rather than any internal hardware yeah?

Yeah I'd be pretty damn sure its the LCD

The glass is easy(ish) to replace but the LCD is fiddly and has a ribbon/wire holding it to the hardware underneath, I think it would be easier to have it done by someone else.

I remember a friend getting her glass repaired for £45 at our local market phone dude, so their £60 for the LCD seems fair to me.

*I must point out I've never used this service, just found them through google*

Thanks, wanted to make sure it was the lcd, before paying for two lots of postage and most have a diagnostic charge. So wanted to be sure.

I replaced a battery and screen in a 3G very cheaply, they only cost about £15 for the pair including all the tools on eBay. The problem was that I broke the connector on the small ribbon cable so the phone was useless anyway. I ended up selling it on eBay in the damaged state for about £70 which wasn't bad considering I was given the knackered phone in the first place.

Bottom line - Be very careful if you plan to do this yourself.

Thanks feek, decided to try myself as the glass screen has a few pretty deep scratches and the back cover is atrocious, Got all 3 for £35 off the bay.

So here's hopping I learn from your mistake.

Also what capacity is the standard battery? is it worth getting a high capacity one of the bay, as I will have the phone open. It's not lasting very long these days.

well that hasn't gone well :(, followed the guides, as far as I can tell haven't damaged anything. but nothing happens when I try to turn it on. Took it apart again and rechecked connections and they all seem fine

put a new battery in, put it on to charge and even with cable in, doesn't do anything. Also tried putting old battery back in, still nothing.

nope, does nothing.

when the screen was broke it only flashed momentarily white with two black lines down it. before looking totally off. Could something else be damaged?

Potientally yes, repairing a few myself it seems they can be a bit tempermental with the connectors. Take it apart again and give it a blast with some air, works a treat for me most of the time.
