So for the people who haven't paid for their Hotmail account are you actually getting all your folders or just:

Inbox
Sent Items
Trash

Mine is over 5 though ^^

Not a problem for me, I just use another account instead, still it is nice to see some hotmail emails from time to time.

Microsoft are the ones losing out by not having it open for all. I just use my other accounts instead now!

Does anyone know why you can't write any text in hotmail when your using safari?

Mine has worked and is downloading all my emails, but the weird thing for me is that even though I have no new emails it telling me that all my emails are new ones. :S I've opened them all!! haha

Because it is using pop3 i think, so your basically redownloading all emails.

I still need to try this but does imap work?

Apologies for the thread revival, but I just got a 3GS today, and am rather keen to set up my Hotmail account, to avoid the O2 charges as much as possible.

I've had no luck at all under 3.0.1, selecting Other as the mail option.

Can anyone help? This is my first iPhone (just bought instead of the Hero) and I'm struggling.

Well at the moment, I just have all my emails from my hotmail account sent to a new googlemail account i made and that works alright for me as it is nice to know that i can check my email on the go and when im at a pc but they are two seperate accounts so obviously if i open an email on my iPhone (linked to GMail) it won't come up as read when I check my hotmail on PC, etc.

Or you can just check it as normal on Safari.

If you are using your iPhone 3GS with its official SIM card then you don't have to worry about the charges since it's free.

Try using these settings when you select the Other option. However, I would recommend converting to Gmail to take advantage of its IMAP offerings since it's superior to POP3 which Hotmail only offers.

I use an app called mBox mail. Shows and updates all and any folders that you've created a treat. A definite worthwhile app.

I too just added my hotmail account using the "Other" option and it works great. My hotmail account is extremely old though. Over 5 years at the minimum.
