The actual phone does have some affect in the speed of browsing, using the 3G connection of my iPhone tethered to my netbook is like using regular broadband, however the slower processor and limited memory on the iPhone 3G means pages can only load at a certain speed so it's not all about connection speed.

Using a 3G iPhone you notice that it can be very slow to load complex pages with loads of javascript when using it with a laptop those same pages load considerably quicker.

Don't want to put you off, I love my iPhone, but it's one of the reasons i'll consider upgrading when my contract runs out.

I have an iPhone 3GS and a HTC Hero, both on Wifi on the same connection. The 3GS loads faster.
