iPhone is destroying my sanity - Android Options?

The misses and I both have 32GB 3GS iPhones and we are growing increasingly frustrated by the terrible performance of the devices.. They are good at everything but being a phone!

Constant loss of signal, constant crashing and loss of touch screen use, freezing, app crashing/errors.. The list is endless. This is quite literally the worst phone I've ever owned. Period.

I'm on o2 and have friends on Vodaphone and Orange who have the same issues.

Both phones are up to date with the latest 4.2 update.

So I'm thinking of paying off the remaining 6 months of my contract and switching to a new phone and network.. However the one saving grace for the iPhone IMO is iTunes.. I love the interface and the iPod is a joy to use!

So... What are the music app options for an android phone? Is there a pc app similar to iTunes that is used to update the library?

Also.. What phones should I look out for that are coming out? Is android the only real option or are Nokia releasing a new os anytime soon?

Lots of questions I know.. But I need something quick (ish) as this has put me off iPhones and is close to snapping my mental stability lol :(

One of my mates has a iPhone 4 and has the same sort of issues!

I've ruled out the option of these 3GS phones being from a bad batch as we bought them from different retailers..

Don't wanna ris the purchase of a 4 or future 5 incase I get stuck with the same sort of problems :(

I use a little program called itunesagent to sync my Galaxy S with itunes, works perfectly. Takes a minute or two to set up, then it's a 1 click sync whenever the phone is plugged into the computer.

There's also a few wireless syncs around, but I've never really looked into them that much, I'm sure someone else here can tell you more though.

Edit - As for phones, Nokia have just released their newest version of Symbian on the N8, it's got a great camera, but that seems to be about it from what I've seen, and it's not getting great reviews :(.

There's a fair few android phones being announced now at CES, so it may be worth holding out for a bit if they're going to be released soon, if not, the main two phones I'd recommend on android would be the Galaxy S or the Desire HD. Best bet would be to go to a store and have a play with both, see which you prefer, and see if there's anything else you can find instore that you prefer.

Have you tried to back up and then restore the devices? If that didn't work, I'd have them looked at by a genius at an Apple Store. You don't need proof of purchase and if they are within warranty and are genuinely faulty, they'll be replaced there and then. The genius might be kind and replace them even if you are a month or so out of warranty.

Indeed, it sounds like you really have 2 crap phones (could be from user issues and crap usage, might be something else) that you might want to get sorted regardless.
Working 3GS sells for quite a bit atm and if you wanted rid it would make sense to have them in best condition that you can get them.

Assuming your phone's aren't faulty etc, then I'll help with the OP!

The Desire HD and Galaxy S are the 'iPhone equivalent' Android devices about at the moment. I say equivalent, but both are more powerful and having Android makes them more flexible and customisable.

Personally I have a Desire HD and I use an app/program called doubleTwist to sync my music: it mirrors your iTunes library on opening (including playlists, Top 25 Played etc) and then allows you to sync with your phone. The UI is very similar to iTunes. Of course if you want with Android you also have the option of just dragging and dropping music onto them as you would a normal USB memory card.

Looked at windows phone 7? If you want a great music player on a mobile device then its probably better than others. You'll have to sync with Zune though, but imo its not much of an issue as its far better than iTunes.

I'd have them looked at by a genius at an Apple Store.

A genius? In an Apple store?

That's a good 'un, I'll have to add it as my amusing sig for the year.

^It shouldn't be too bad if you understand the limitations of the 3GS?

As Morba said, reset the one of them and just use it as a phone first (no apps/media etc) if your still getting freezing/crashing/touchscreen issues etc then it's a bust device.
If you don't have defective phones (and it's user issues) then Android will be even worse... The more complex/open nature of Android could tie your phone in knots well beyond that of the 3GS :D

I agree with Amp34, sounds like WP7 is right up your street. That offers the most simplified smartphone experience and zune is similar to iTunes.

I had problems with mine being a phone until T-Mobile saved the day.

It's a 16Gb GS and is running fine still.

Windows 7 based phones have a pretty good sync program called zune. And windows 7 is pretty slick as a Pretty slick as a operating system.

I'd get your phones fixed, paying off your contracts will be expensive and my iphone (16gb 3gs) has none of those issues, apps will occasionally crash, but not enough to cause a problem.

What you should do if you can is a factory reset and start again, that may sort out the issue. However the 3GS is known to have speed issues with the latest software.
