IPhone issues

I've had my iPhone for six weeks now.

It's cacked itself to the point of needing a full restore three times. Also, compared to my previous phones the signal atrength is quite poor.

Is this normal behaviour or should I start hassling Orange for a replacement?

Right, well it's just syncing my music/contacts/etc. back over now.

Last chance, and then Orange get a flea in their ears.

The main problem is that some application just craps itself and takes everything else with it, so that all I can do is basic phone functions (web, phone, SMS).

Genius Bar appointment booked for tomorrow.

Which is lucky because today i've considered throwing it, hard. Firstly Safari pooped itself but turning it off and back on fixed it.

Then it started telling me that I had 3G and full signal when I clearly didn't as I couldn't make any calls, send any texts, or browse the web.

And finally, it's sat here now in it's dock telling me that something it's connected to is "not an official device" and that I should enable airplane mode "to reduce interference".

You what?

Sadly i've had to reschedule twice as things have come up with University and i've not had time to go in yet.

It seems to be semi-behaving itself at the moment though. Everything works, but it feels a lot more sluggish than normal.

my 1st iphone (3G) had similar problems, i just returned it and picked up a replacement. something to do with the firmware being corrupted as far as i remember- dont let them try and fob you off tho . they may give you some guff about testing it instore. insist on a replacement

They get one chance to fix it. If they can't then i'll be back and insisting that it's replaced.

Just got back, they ran a diagnostic on it and it just crashed halfway through! Wouldn't even turn on anymore, lol.

So I now have a fresh 3GS 16GB.

And I'm sat here on the bus now with an iPhone where none of my apps work and Safari is lagging.

I could cry, I really could.

Interestingly, I got a text from Orange telling me I'd had a SIM update and to turn the phone off and on. Did it, and when I turned it back on, none of my apps would work.

I'll give it ONE restore tonight, but if it does it again I'm going to really lose it.

I seem to have managed to coax my applications back to life by deleting and reinstalling them from the app store, but Safari is still lagging like hell.

I have three installed.

Facebook, Words with Friends, and Sudoku. Nothing else bar the basic stuff.

does safari lag while ur on wifi? or is it just when ur connected to cellular data network (3G)?

Both.

A good example is that i'm browsing a page, and I open my bookmarks. I click on a bookmark, and nothing happens. So I try again. Nothing. I try another, nothing. I try the home button, nothing. After about 10 seconds it catches up.

you may find that "words with friends" and "facebook" could be causing issues because they use push notification. Try turning push off in settings. I had some apps using push and I found it drained my battery big time, but this could be causing 3G lag too???

Interestingly, Push worked at first, but doesn't anymore at all.

It's been behaving itself since but now it's gone back to refusing to charge in my official iPhone dock.

Restore tonight then. /sigh
