Stocks cleared as new Apple iPhone set for July release

O2 is poised to tweak prices on the 3G iPhone in May, ahead of what is believed to be a new Apple mobile phone in June or, most likely, July, Mobile can exclusively reveal.

The 3G iPhone (pictured) will be free on its £35 and £45 per month tariffs from May. The 16GB version is currently only free on the £75 per month contract, while the 8GB handset is free only on the £75 and £45 per month deals.

Customers currently spend between £59 and £159 for an iPhone on the £35 and £45 monthly tariffs.

O2 is believed to be keen to clear its inventory of the 3G iPhones ahead of the new device.

Details of the new Apple handset planned for June or July are not known, but there has been considerable speculation that it will be a mid-range ‘Nano-style’ device, which will be cheaper by compromising either on memory, camera or screen size.

Sources claim Orange is in talks with Apple to make its next mobile phone available on the Orange network as well as O2 in the UK.

Why would they clear stocks of their premium phone to launch a reduced function mid range one? Compromising the screen size would ruin the interaction with the phone as it has no keys, it's just crazy.

I would love the iphone to be on Orange,

That would be perfect!

Decent reception on trains, decent rates and lots of nice freebees that Orange so generously offer.

I just doubt it somehow

Doesnt orange limit you to 250mb internet access? Could well be a porblem on an iphone and maybe more so if the rumoured thering comes along with OS3.0.

You'd have to go some to go over that limit tbh, I have a touch HD and I don't get anywhere near that limit.

some apps are pretty big especially if your not prevented by Apples App Store from downloading them, i.e. via cydia.

There are quite a few apps which can really hammer your data usage like xGPS and some of the streaming apps such as Simplify. Since late October I've managed to download 1.4Gb of stuff to mine.

How big? The biggest application I have downloaded was about 25MB, which was a fairly extensive game. Most WM apps are usually considerably less than a couple of MB!
