My contract with Orange is coming to an end, and I'm leaning towards getting an iPhone on O2. From what I've seen they seem pretty nice.

My only reservation is that the prices don't seem to have come down at all. I'll essentially be paying the same as everyone who got this phone a year ago paid.

Are there any phones which match the iPhone for s****iness, useability, and functions?

Looking around on here, the HTC Diamond 2 looks pretty neat. Does anyone know when it's released/how much it'll be/ which networks will offer it?

I like the look of the new Diamond but the fact it runs on Winmo is a major fail for me...plus im not looking to use anything but a Blackberry now.

You could have a look at the Blackberry Storm, which is very similar to the iphone...altho it does have a fair few software issues but they are slowly being ironed out.

I'm based in London and the GPS on the iPhone seemed decent and a useful means of getting around.

Also like the toy features like shazam.

But really I'd want this for email and internet browsing and possibly music and video playback

Depends what you want it for,
iPhone = toy
HTC xxxxxxx = proper phone (practical with proper gps etc)

iPhone is not a toy, with the inclusion of exchange support, VPN, app store, good continuous updates. It is a great user-friendly smartphone with the best GUI of any phone available.

Not too sure about Blackberries, but maybe I should have a look. I thought winmo was meant to be quite good.

Is internet browsing on the bb good?

Whatever :p

The iPhone is anything but a toy. It's ingenious and more useful than any other phone I've ever used.

Edit: Just waiting for the 32Gb version ;)

Now really isn't a good time to buy a new mobile phone.

In three months we should see the release of the next generation of devices: Samsung OmniaHD, Nokia N97, HTC Diamond 2 and the new iPhone.

I'm in a similar position to the OP and have pretty much decided on a 16Gb iPhone from O2.

If there was some 32Gb iPhone 3 released in 6 months or so, O2 would offer to upgrade existing users like they did with the original to the 3G model I would have presumed?

I decided to go with the g1, the g2 is out in a few months but it still looks a v good phone as it is. Though no real 1st hand experience yet to recommend it.

i have got G1 and love it its got everything the iphones got as far as i can see + they keep adding to it and all the apps are free right now. though i think there going to start charging for them soon in the uk i know they have in the USA (its a shame as i love browsing the market and downloading what ever takes your fancy at the time its helped wast so many journeys...)

You can get shazam (or equivlent software) on winmo phones too, in fact pretty much all the stuff on the apps store is available for winmo phones (don't know about blackberry though).

why would they upgrade customers from 8/16gb to the 32gb version? it'll just be another option like they have with the ipod touch where they have the 8gb, 16gb and 32gb version, unless they include new features in the 32gb version which aren't in the 8 & 16gb versions(in which case I assume they'll release the 8&16gb versions soon/ish after)

I don't know why people **** off the iphone its one of the best phones i have messed with everything about it is so nice, ok it lacks features but all phones have good and bad points.
