got rid of the viewty, now do i get a itouch and a cheap phone. or do i get the iphone.... :(

what are your thoughts??

i missed the wi-fi of my N95 hense selling the viewty

Would echo the above as a music player it is great, as a phone it is good too although missing some features my old Nokia 6600 had.

economically it would make more sense for you just to get an itouch then you'll fill the void of lack of wifi and then you'll just keep the viewty to use as a phone. To get an iphone you either pay 02 an 18 months contract or get it for loads sim free elsewhere.

rumour has it there is a new version coming out half way though the year with GPS and slimmer design. any news of this?

All I'm going to say is, I bought a Touch and kept my old phone.

Then 3 months later I ended up buying an iPhone.

lol, I am having that urge.....

I bought a itouch in January (1 after month buying a classic in December), and now 6 weeks on i am thinking more and more about an iphone, i have a N95 as well (on PAYG even)!

:p

I had every intention at the time to carry on with the Touch + Phone but there came I point where I thought I should treat myself (it replaced the Sharp GX30i I'd had for nearly 4 years) so I went for the iPhone, telling myself I could keep the Touch in the car.

Its expensive, but not long after I bought it they upgraded the tariff which made me feel a little better about the purchase.

I'm really looking forward to what the SDK brings to the table. Massive potential. The only concern I have is many of these new apps are going to highlight the low speed of EDGE. I think its going to start looking really old really fast. (some people would say its already old)

But, alas, thats technology for you. I don't regret buying mine. :)

Only thing putting me off an iPhone instead of my touch + blackberry is taking the touch out on nights out. Never dropped a phone before but sods law will prevail and I doubt I'll be able to text when ive had a few!

SDK?

I'm very happy with my two box solution. I've got a 16GB iPod touch and Nokia N95 8GB.

The advantages are that I get all of the best features of both. I get lots of memory in my iPod (only the 8GB iPhone was available at the time) and in a smaller package. I also get all of the great features of the N95 - HSDPA, GPS, 5MP camera, video recording, proper Bluetooth, officially sanctioned 3rd party apps, etc, etc, ,etc.

Best of all, I can watch video all day long on my iPod touch and not worry about it affecting my phone battery.

The price was the same too. An iPhone on O2 would have cost £269 + £35pm. I paid £269 for the iPod touch and nothing up front for the N95 8GB.

I'd never go back to a legacy phone like an N95 after getting used to my iPhone. They are just streets apart for things like web browsing and email. OK you can't video yourself beating up a tramp and weeing on him and then bluetooth it to all your mates, but I never did that anyway. :D

EDIT: The other annoying thing about the touch has just been demonstrated once again with the announcement that the 2.0 firmware will again cost touch owners money.

I expect they'll be a v2 iphone when the firmware for the SDK comes out. So I'll have to wait for that (shame as I was getting all ready to buy one).

Regarding EDGE though, I don't get people's obsession. I have a 3G datacard for my MBP, it's slow using 3G in central london and it's a little slower using EDGE back home in the countryside, but it's a choice of rubbish and a little more rubbish. Mobile broadband sucks, thats just life, 3G isn't a magic bullet. (WIMAX on the other hand might be)

Odd solution, I've paired my itouch with a E65. I can't see the point of a big powerful smartphone and an itouch, surely a iphone would make more sense. Then again I carry my work blackberry most of the time as well.

Thing is, the reason I'll likely buy an iphone when they release v2 is I want all the cool internet features and imap email even when I'm not within range of wifi...
