iPhone or something else?

Hello there guys

I've been on android almost since the start (first was the original Samsung Galaxy S) and currently own an Xperia Z1. Whilst I've enjoyed it for the most part, I feel it has came with a wide array of issues. For example, I have had to flash a more vanilla lollipop update onto the phone, as the supplied lollipop upgrade turned my Z1 from a great phone into a poor one.

I am also fed up of the constant crashing and general feel of android, and wonder if it is the time to take a jump onto iPhone come September when Apple are expected to announce the new models. Whilst I am aware of iOS's shortcomings (lack of customisation, more expensive app store), I also have heard many experiences of a very smooth operating system that is far more reliable that Android.

Personally, iPhones have never interested me, I have never been swayed by their popularity, but nowadays find myself attracted to the much different system.

I feel personal benefits to iPhone would be the Apple Pay service (I am aware Google will be launching their own, but haven't heard enough information to impress me on their version) and more reliability and security at the sacrifice of customisability. I also would like the Touch ID (I am aware Samsung have devices also capable) but more for the gimmick purposes admittedly.

Anyone have any opinions on this? Personal experiences similar and their course of action? Open to suggestions of other devices too, as I almost returned to the Galaxy series with the S6.

Thanks!:D

Iphones have loads of problems and I've never had a crash on android tbh the only thing to do in this situation is some proper research and have a clear idea of your own needs.

To me in your position it would be between the s6, Note 5 or the iphone 6s in whichever of the 2 sizes appeals to you.

What sort of issues? As i've never had one before I am really looking at personal experiences to weigh up the pros and cons of each

And yeah, the note 5 does look impressive, well the small info that has been seen that is, its just the size of the thing that puts me off, don't think i'd want a phone bigger than my Z1.

My brother's Z1C was crashy as well, had to reflash Lollipop to sort it, but playing around with the Z2 and Z3 it seems Sony has learnt their lesson and it's far more stable.

Any chance you can wait a few more months? The next Nexus will be annouced soon, and there are rumours of a smaller size one with a 5.2" screen and possibly a fingerprint reader. From my experience, the stock Google Android on the Nexus devices are very stable.

Yeah would wait longer if there was some more leaked information on them, only seen a benchmark so far, albeit an incredible benchmark score. Just want some more info on it really as its quite clear it will be a powerhouse in terms of speed

Please educate me as to the "loads of problems" I've not experienced as of yet.

Apps crashing, batteries getting weaker just to name 2 of the classic apple owner moans I read in our apple forum, nothing major just along the lines of the minor issues the op mentioned in relation to android as if he didn't realise that iphones have their own issues too.

So android apps don't crash and android batterys last so much longer than a day is that what your saying? :)

I actually mentioned that I know iPhone comes with its own issues, but as I haven't actually had one, I wanted to know what sortve problems people had encountered, hence the thread

Do believe that my sudden consideration of iPhone after many years of being against them is down to the difference in system. Whilst Samsung, LG, Sony etc all put their own twist on the Android OS, at the core, it is primarily the same system whichever android you get. Just difficult to consider if I would get bored/fed up of iPhone quickly if I did decide to get one

I think fanboyism in relation to phones is beyond ridiculous and if the s6 hadn't lived up to my hopes I was all set to try out the 6s or whatever they choose to call it, because I like the s6 I'm more likely to buy a Note 5 but I'll still be looking at the 6s with great interest and expect it to be an excellent phone.

For info on the iphone 6/6+ look in the apple hardware sub forum loads of info there.

What do you want out of a phone? iOS removes all the tinkering and instead you have a very stable and slick environment. If the lack of tinkering is going to bore you then it's not for you. You give up a lot of your freedom on iOS (you can always jailbreak) though. There is also a degree of planned obsolescence where new features are reserved for the latest handset.

Personally I want my phone to just work and have a good selection of apps, I don't want to faff around with ROMS or skins anymore.

Yeah that's the thing, when I updated my Z1, it took me half a day to read up on flashing roms etc and actually doing it. I felt it was all effort I'd rather not have to deal with, as I believe a product that is given an update should be more than compatible with that update, and not compromising on performance. Therefore, to me, customisation is not important as long as the original software is reliable.

I think right now it's between the 6s and the new nexus for me. The main temptation of the S6 is that I can actually get that now and not have to wait months, but would rather wait for the right phone

700 million iPhones sold. Statistically a few people are going to have a faulty handset or have unrealistic expectations.

Well said. Then again I've never faffed in the first place. I needed a new phone and a replacement iPod so I rolled them into one device.

You won't find many disappointed Z3 owners which was going to be my suggestion. Hands down the best phone I have owned and I generally change every 12 months.

But based on the OP, I'm guessing you won't be keen.

Got to admit, after having my galaxy and HTC sensation, this Z1 has been great, it's still running smooth with every task now I've flashed a rom on it, it's just I'm getting bored now and getting that itch to get a new phone
