iphone pay as you go on old contract phone question...

No, its not! Why do people keep saying this? That was the old limit, the new one is unlimited you just cant keep streaming youtube vids and such

Chill out love, found out later they have an excessive usage policy in place now. But still do not list an exact data limit.

Sorry to take the thread slightly off topic. (Didn't want to open a new thread at this stage)

I got a 3g iPhone from a colleague (was on a contract.) I purchased an o2 sim from the local shop, and I get a 'No Service' message, Could it be that the sim is not a 3g sim?

Any help would be a god send at the moment as I am pulling out my hair.

Thanks

Did he show you it was working with network beforehand? Because that's usually how a blocked phone behaves.

I can't imagine any 02 SIMs being sold now not being a 3G SIM.

If it was working fine and it's not blocked, does it show 'carrier' on the options/settings?

Also, is it jailbroken and unlocked? That could contribute to it, I get similar problems occasionally with mine, but I get the signal back soon enough, after a reboot or something.

It really should be illegal to say Unlimited, but has a FUP.

Basically, it's unlimited, but if you use its unlimted bandwith too much, we'll moan at you, but hey, it's unlimited!

it's neither unblocked or jailbroken, also used a friends contract iPhone sim, and it worked straight away. Still scratching my head, thanks for the input, anyhow.

djmc0,

Have you activated it in itunes with your new sim in it?

Thats how it would behave if it wasnt activated, mines the same. I bought a pay as you go version £400 notes and use my simplicity contract sim in it ;)

I have restored it, with my new PAYG sim in it, with itunes, and also left for half an hour it said something like 'awaiting activation this may take a while, and that didn't change for half an hour, does anyone know if a PAYG sim should work in a contract iphone? BTW thanks for the input data monkey, it's appreciated :)

Awaiting activation shouldnt take that long,

should be done instantly within itunes,

hows it going now?

Is it possible the guy sold it to you, then reported it stolen, then what some of the others above have said could be true, ie the phone has been blocked?

well im getting on very well with mine now

its getting to be one of those 'how did i get on without it' things

just need to find some useful apps now :)

I know exactly what you mean - when I bought mine, I was convinced the novalty would wear off but I couldn't be without it now - I even use Maps as a kind of Sat Nav for walking (I don't drive yet) lol so it's been fantastic.

Hi guys,

Can anyone confirm that a PAYG 3G iphone will work with a 3G simplicity sim (so not iphone contract sim)? Will all of the features work?

I asked o2 about this, and was told that I would only be able to send/receive calls and texts, and other features would not work, i.e. browsing, wi-fi, etc. Is this true? Or is this o2 trying to get me into a more expensive iphone contract?

From datamonkey's experience, I am hopeful, but wanted to check before I buy the phone from a friend!

Everything will work fine, just make sure you get the data bolt-on or you'll be paying a fortune for the net traffic. Only thing that won't work is visual voicemail.
