i have a iphone 3g had it since end of may 2009,for past month my sound kept going off,and when i used my phone i couldnt hear anyone but they could hear me,after 20 mins or so if i rang out again it was fine.I noticed while playing music through my phone it would say Headset volume instead of Volume,so my phone basicly is keep thinking i have headphones plugged in.I have tryed cleaning the socket and also put headphone jack in and out a few times, but problem still happens, allot more the past week.

Does anyone know what apple's warranty is like,do they do good will gestures and fix for outside warranty ? lol or am i looking to pay £120 or whatever service is?

Have you tried a hard reset or restore?

If its out of warranty then your going have to pay £146.29 for repairs.

the only thing ive done is update the software,i am sure its a hardware fualt becuase sumtimes if i put headphones in then take them out my sound comes back on but not all the time.If i push a tooth pic in the socket it also works sumtimes

Since your out of warranty, you could try taking it apart and see if anything is loose around the headphone area.

take it instore and maybe ask an apple genius, I have had a screen replaced outside of warranty as he classed it as a manufacture fault ;)

I second the take it in store option. Make an appointment with a genius (yuck) and see what they say - I suspect you will be pleasantly surprised. My bud just got his slightly out of warranty macbook a whole bunch of repairs for free simply by asking nicely :)
