I have a problem with my iPhone (and I was just about to sell it :(). It is still under warranty. I bought it from O2.

I called them up and they said the only thing I can do is take it into an O2 store who will pass it onto Apple for me for repair. It can take up to 14 days.

I cannot be doing with that (what happened to them sending a courier out with a replacement phone in exchange for the broken one). Can I just take it into an Apple store, have a 'Genius' (lol) check it out and perhaps replace it?

Thanks

Yes you can, and depending on the fault, they will replace it on the spot. Far better service than the morons at the O2 shops in my experience. Asking anyone to be without a phone for 14 days is a nonsense, especially if on a contract :(

They don't even ask for paperwork, the serial number confirms it's warranty status IIRC

Book a genius appointment online and they are very good. I had a small problem with mine and they replaced it immediately.

Just make sure you back your phone up in itunes before you leave, then you can restore it to the replacement and you're good to go.

Is it older than 14 days?

You can get an on-the-spot swap if it's faulty in the first 14 days. I've also had success calling them up and saying I was on holidays for 2 weeks, when it was outside the 14 day period.

Alternatively, take it to an Apple store as mentioned and they will exchange it if they can't fix the fault :)

Thanks :)

FYI, I have two faults - one is incredibly intermittent, which is where the phone seems to stop detecting the SIM card randomly. Give it a shake about, and it is good to go. Second fault is that it is losing charge incredibly quickly. I guess I can demonstrate fault #2 easily enough, but not fault #1.

Sorry to thread jack but...

How many speakers does the 3G have? Mine has 2 grills on the bottom either side of the connector but sound only comes from one, is this normal?

Thanks

The Apple store have much better support than the phone shops, I've had 2 headset replacements and a USB cable replacements since last July when I got my iPhone 3G. They have always replaced the faulty parts without issue and are very helpful, they make sure you are satisfied before you leave.

i scratched the screen very slightly on a 4 day old iPhone 3G recently. Gutted. Popped in after making an appointment, said i hadnt mishandled it or anything (which in fairness i hadnt) and said i also didnt want it swapping for a refurb'd one as it was so new. They swapped the screens out for me FOC (£180 supposedly). Really cant fault them.

Make sure you book an appointment as they are likely to do nothing for you if they are fully booked, bit of a pain if if there isn't any for a few days and you need it sorting ASAP.
