So as you may have seen in Feek's "I dropped my iPhone" thread, Ive also dropped mine, however I wasn't so lucky and the screen is mashed, it still works under all the shattered glass but looks very poorly, its just seems to be cosmetic damage. I was wondering what the best procedure is to get it fixed. Its an 8GB 3G.

Obviously being a clumsy idiot and smashing your phone isn't covered under warranty, Ive phoned the household insurance people up to see if I can claim under that, however they want to know how much it would cost to get it repaired (the excess would be £75 regardless). A guy at work whose daughter works for O2 says that they send the phones back to Apple who cant be bothered repairing them and replace the phone for a fixed fee of approx £140. Whether this is true or not I have no idea. What other options is there out there, will independent phone shops be worth looking into or will they not have Apple spare parts?

Once I get it repaired its going to be sold, so Id much prefer it being done properly and claim on the insurance and get back some cash from the sale of the repaired/replaced phone.

Any idea chaps? Thanks in advance.

Aye Apple store, £139 new screen sadly.

Thanks for that, I havent got an Apple store close to me (yet) so Ill think Ill drop it into O2 and get them to send it off for me.

Super duper, I can now goto the insurance people and give them some facts :>

Cheers.

Not bad :)

Definitely made my mind up not to bother with any sort of case.
I dropped my last iphone a few times and nothing happened anyway. Once onto the patio at quite some speed did take a tiny chip out of the edge of the glass but it was hardly noticeable.

Well, I had mine for a year and was dropped a few times, just the last one it went pop, Ive got a case now on my 3GS as Im thinking of the resale value when (if) Apple bring another phone out next June and Im out of contact and wont have to buy it out, so get maximum cash for it :>
