Iphone security alert

Don't know whether anyone else has had this, but I have just had a text from a number (think it was 81444) saying that my iPhone has been hacked and that I should visit a site for further information (site had the word "geek" in it). Anyone else had something like this?
I have not updated to 3.0.1 yet. I don't always sync my iPhone so wasn't aware of the update, nor this issue until I received the text.

Yep, and I'm on 3.0.1.. Slightly worrying.
Just visited that site in my browser (Firefox 3.5.1 with NoScript so should be safe) and it immediately asks to download a WAP file to run (text/vnd.wap.wml). I'm guessing this file is harmless to a PC, but probably not so much to the iPhone.
I'm pretty sure that I have been to the Geek Squad website before. I thought it was a company that specialised in PC support for businesses etc. It would appear that their site has been hacked. The biggest question I have is how the hell did whoever hack it get hold of my mobile number.

Usual spam text rubbish. Not worrying at all, delete it and move on.
Is it fixed in Windows Mobile yet? I've not seen any announcements saying it is. Strange that, people are quick enough to knock the fact that it affected the iPhone but are keeping quiet about the fact that MS have done naff all to sort Windows Mobile.

Might be spam text rubbish, might not be though. I find it rather odd that the main site of a widely-used tech support company has an index page that immediately tries to download a WAP file through your browser. Especially since this site is listed in a text message we on the iPhone have just received. A mate of mine that got his iPhone at the same time as me also got the same message.

Site isn't displaying correctly for me, although it might have cached itself from my visit a few minutes ago.
You're right, common sense does dictate that. I haven't opened the message on my phone, I'm more sensible than that, but I did visit it in my secure browser after realising that the URL posted up by Justin is that of a well-known support company in the UK. Their site was downloading a WAP file which would possibly compromise the browser on the iPhone. Perhaps they have been made aware that their site was doing this, and have now sorted it out. Still, thought it best to post up on here about it just in case someone else does fall victim to this.
I'd really love to know how they got out numbers in the first instance.
It's not strange at all. Apple have lampooned their competition about vulnerabilities in their smug adverts, so deservedly take more heat when it happens to their own products.
With the uncompelling state of Windows Mobile, I'd bet at it being complete apathy rather than keeping quiet in a lot of cases D:

Got this message about 20 mins ago, looked into it, called geeksquad. Apparently Carphone Warehouse sent it out to all users this evening (geeksquad is part of their insurance - oddly i have insurance direct with O2 so not sure why I got the message from GS or why CpW are sending it under the guise of geeksquad rather than themselves).
I told the guy it was pretty vague and a little worrying and told him it would be worth relaying that up the chain....whether he will or not is another matter although he agreed he could understand why it could be suspicious.
Needless to say CpW is closed now so i cant phone them to check (why send out a suspicious message when you are closed
) but i'll check with them in the morning.

Just called CpW and she didnt know what it was, disappeared for few mins and when she came back she said she had spoken to geeksquad, the guy there knew exactly what she was going to say!
It is legit, but they recommend going thru itunes rather than the link in the message. They are now aware that its wording is dubious to say the least.
Just plug into iTunes and update as per normal which is what it should have said in the text in the first place!
