Hey all, im looking for an option on my iphone that allows me to stop it displaying texts on the main screen when I receive them (when the phones locked basically), I swear I saw an option somewhere in it to turn that off, but cannot find it now  is this possible or did I just dream it up ? lol

There is :)

Go in settings -> general -> Passcode lock

This is the only downside, you have to passcode lock your phone so everytime you unlock it. But in there is an option to stop texts displaying on the main screen

Ahh cheers awesome, passcode lock I use anyway, as the phones so good for getting email etc there and then; its abit open to your account being used should it be nicked, so set it to lock after 15 mins :)

One more question is how do I turn off 'predictive' text ? its well annoying, most of the words I write I have to type nnnnn or something on the end to get rid of what ever it will drop in to place what it thinks is right, then delete all the nnnn's so I can get the word I want

EDIT: Another thing, can the iphone use a hidden network? it connects fine when i broadcast my SSID, but I dont wanna broadcast it ! there seems to be no option for 'this is a hidden network' or something like that

Theres no way to turn off the predictive text, its built right into the intelligent keyboard functionality.

Im using my iphone on my home network with the SSID hidden with no problems what so ever, turn on wifi and the phone picks up the network and connects every time :)

Hiding the SSID is a good thing IMO

/Agree

To run without atleast WPA enabled is just asking for trouble.

A bold statement that is usually true, however, it all depends where you live.

I live in an old barn-type building (actually a cow shed) where the walls are 2ft thick, and I live a mile from the nearest country lane (literally in the middle of nowhere) and I feel comfortable running with the SSID hidden and no security.

However, for the majority of people I'd say; yes, go with WPA/2 to be sure.

Mines a 1.1.3 legal phone, it does not connect to my hidden network, but then iv got 'ask to connect to network' on, which i want.........I wonder if yours is off and it just connects?

SSID is defintley hidden and all i have to do is turn on wifi and it auto connects to my network

But remember you have to connect to the network with the SSID enabled 1st and then hide it, well thats how i got it to work anyways :P

Hope this helps

When it makes a suggestion just tap on the screen where the suggested word appears and it will forget it.

Come on, I've only had my iphone 2 days and i know that... ;)

It's learnt a few words of mine too, but theres one thats stuck in it. Cant remember what I was typing but a few days ago it kept correcting a word to **** lol

Thats why I ALWAYS read it before I press send. :p

The amount of times I've avoided big trouble by miss spelling something or sending it to the wrong person doesn't bear thinking about. With iPhone its not too bad because most of the time I select the contact BEFORE writing the text. On my old phone it worked the other way round. Not great when you're drunk.
