I rang a number during work last week. Today my phone has text that number stating "who is this?" via iMessage. Has my phone automatically done this or has someone done this on my phone?

Haha no I have a wife who is literally on tears stating she hasn't done it, I have told her thr phone can't just text itself :p would it be possible for someone to do it any other way? Seriously messed up!!

Why would she be in tears? And do you seriously think iPhones or any phones at all randomly text message people you have previously contacted stating "Who is this?".

Are you sure you sent an iMessage and not recieved one from the number asking who this is? If not, then someone has had your phone.

Have you recently sold or returned an iDevice?

EDIT: Might be this:

WOW now I am amazed.

At midnight last night I apparently had a conversation with several of my friends. No i have no sold an idevice however I recently moved to another network and for a short while used a new number before my old number ported. It looks like someone else is now using that number and apple still have my imessage account linked? It looks like they could be using my email?

HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?! My wife and I were fast asleep and no one else is in the house. Does this mean this stranger is recieving all of my imessages including pictures

How do I sort it? Im going to turn imessage off for a short term solution.

Just got off the phone to apple and they have confirmed it and reset my password. He still could not give an explanation though. Hmmmm tempted to leave iMessage off now, seems its rather vulnerable.

That is really dodgy. This really needs to be brought to some mainstream media attention to make Apple fix this ASAP, that Gizmodo article is from February!

Whoa... I certainly don't like the sound of that!!! This sort of thing has happened before as well...
