Hello all,

I'm totally fed up of my LG Prada. I've had it 12 months now and I'm on an 18 month contract with 02.

Basically I want rid of my phone and to replace it with a new one. I've got used to the fact of having a poor camera in the night with the LG Prada so the poor camera on the iPhone isn't an issue.

I had a play with a mates iPhone the other day and I was very impressed with it's GUI and smoothness of operating one app to the next.

Now, I'll probably have to amend my contract to a special iPhone one to handle the data transfer costs but before I try to persue 02 in to getting an early upgrade, what other phones should I consider? I know the N95 8gb is supposed to be a good phone, but it seems a bit chunky? I'm used to the slim feel of the LG Prada so going back to something chunky may not be ideal.

I understand you can get in to the back end of the iPhone now and install 3rd party apps to send and receive MMS, and updates are coming out all the time to support bluetooth.

The ultimate question is, when will the successor to the iPhone come out? Is it worth holding on another 6 months and then getting the iPhone2 (if/when it's released)? I heard a rumour that anyone buying an iPhone gets a heavy discount on the iPhone2, or a free upgrade to the iPhone2. Anyone heard anything similar?

I am also out of contract with t-mobile & my K800i, i have Not heard of iphone2 , just the 3G addition which will probably be out in June, apart from that all else will be the same. What i really want from the iphone is bluetooth transfer

I have just received my Orange iPhone from an Essex company - they did it as an upgrade on my Orange account - cost me £139 for the phone - the only thing that the new phone cant do is MMS - apart from that I have to say I am totally impressed by how easy it is to use!!!

The maps application is incredible - I was in Tamworth this morning - opened up the maps application and it immediately cicled my current location!!!!!

Doubtful there will be any iphone discounts, however you'll probably be able to buy one for the retail price and then start your contract again for another 18 months. However it is possible that you'll need to have had an iPhone contract for a little while to do this. There will almost certainly be no free upgrades with the iPhone as this is not the way that Apple work.

You said this in another thread but didn't reply to anyone that asked you how you got this deal. Would you care to answer the following questions?

1. What company in Essex offer this service
2. What is your monthly line rental
3. What kind of contract length are you on

It seems rather unusual that any reputable company would buy and hack an iPhone to give to a customer.

my advice is to wait a while on an iphone. I don't have one, but i did have agood play in the shop a while ago and I think they are really nice, but....

at the moment, I thinka newer version is worth waiting for. Rumours say that ist could be with us by the end of June (i'm not convinced), but I do think a 3g version is worth waiting for....

The iPhone IMO is currently the best phone on the market by a loooong way, yes the 3G option would be awesome but im 4 months in and still use the thing contstantly !!!!

Be interesting what the battery life would be like with 3G and if the phone still remains what it is after the upgrade, i fear the 3G will EAT battery and they may cap the data usage................

If u ask me apart from the slowish 2G network its fracking perfect now :P

Im still killing well over 200MB a month and not about to slow down :D

Where are you getting all this from? On all networks in all countries that sell the iPhone, you could buy a 16GB iPhone (when you had the 8GB) without extending or renewing your contract.

Company . . .

Orange know all about the upgrade
the phone is BRAND NEW
iPhone has latest software and is 16Gb!!!
cost £139 for the upgrade

You will not have been upgraded officially to an iphone on orange, you'll have no real guarantees of anything with anyone apart from the dealer. Any claim that it's official or Orange approved is simply false.

Exactly. It's just some shonky company buying iPhones and then unlocking them and selling them to people on contracts where they are making enough commission to cover the cost of the phone:

It's just an expensive way of getting an iPhone really, if you buy and unlock one yourself and choose the equivalent Orange tariff it probably works out cheaper.

As you say, to suggest Orange are aware of this (why would they even care or need to be told anyway?) seems like a load of rubbish really. It is not an 'Orange upgrade' as originally implied, its just an overpriced unlocked iphone like the millions of others on ebay.

Actually I asked in the O2 shop after hearing about this on OcUK before and he said you'd have to wait for the contract to expire! I was basing what I thought would happen on what O2 did when the original iPhone came out, if you'd had your contract for over a certain amount of months (3?) you could keep your old phone and move onto an iPhone tariff.

However, because you seemed so adamant I just called three other O2 shops, the Maidenhead one where the girl said it isn't possible and two shops in Slough where they both said they didn't think it is possible and to call customer service.

I called customer service and was put through to the iPhone department who confirmed what you are saying is correct :). Basically you activate the phone as an existing O2 customer and it doesn't start your contract again. I don't know why they don't advertise this more (or at least let their shop staff know) as I'm sure a lot of people want more space but thought they were stuck with their 8gb iPhone until their contract runs out.

Having said all this when the 'new' iPhone comes out might be different.

listen . . .

One of my phones on my Orange contract (that I have had for our business for over 10 years) expired so I found a company that would supply an iPhone (unlocked) with the latest software - as though it was an upgrade (I called Orange and they confirm that my phone has been upgraded) as a talkshare (£12.50 per month) so whats the problem??

Cost me £139 for the phone and £12.50 per month - works perfectly - all confirmed on the correct talkplan as a sharer - no worries.

The problem was that you tried to make out it was an Orange upgrade, when it's just an unlocked iPhone which loads of people have here.

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww I am soooooooooooooooo sorry great one Wicksta - didnt mean to mislead and upset you soooooooooooooo much - will you ever be able to find it in your heart to forgive my utter stupidity???
