iPhone Upgrade Now?

You are really annoying to be honest, your just misleading people, you know your iphone is unlocked which means you have the same problem everyone else is going to have when new firmware comes out, you have just paid a premium to some random company for the iphone who have obviously told orange its something else, why not just tell it as it is ?

Hello all,

I'm totally fed up of my LG Prada. I've had it 12 months now and I'm on an 18 month contract with 02.

Basically I want rid of my phone and to replace it with a new one. I've got used to the fact of having a poor camera in the night with the LG Prada so the poor camera on the iPhone isn't an issue.

I had a play with a mates iPhone the other day and I was very impressed with it's GUI and smoothness of operating one app to the next.

Now, I'll probably have to amend my contract to a special iPhone one to handle the data transfer costs but before I try to persue 02 in to getting an early upgrade, what other phones should I consider? I know the N95 8gb is supposed to be a good phone, but it seems a bit chunky? I'm used to the slim feel of the LG Prada so going back to something chunky may not be ideal.

I understand you can get in to the back end of the iPhone now and install 3rd party apps to send and receive MMS, and updates are coming out all the time to support bluetooth.

The ultimate question is, when will the successor to the iPhone come out? Is it worth holding on another 6 months and then getting the iPhone2 (if/when it's released)? I heard a rumour that anyone buying an iPhone gets a heavy discount on the iPhone2, or a free upgrade to the iPhone2. Anyone heard anything similar?

N95 looks bigger then it really is. I've never found it bulky. My P990i on the other hand...

No MMS on a phone is bad. I love sending random MMS pictures, or being the 'cameraman' on a night out, and sending everyone the snaps. I suppose you could e-mail them, but who actually uses their phone e-mail. I've never bothered to set it up on any of my phones.

One of my phones on my Orange contract (that I have had for our business for over 10 years) expired so I found a company that would supply an iPhone (unlocked) with the latest software - as though it was an upgrade (I called Orange and they confirm that my phone has been upgraded) as a talkshare (£12.50 per month) so whats the problem??

Cost me £139 for the phone and £12.50 per month - works perfectly - all confirmed on the correct talkplan as a sharer - no worries.

Khushy

Your account will not say iphone, it will say something else entirely. they've told orange one thing and given you something entirely different. It's as shonky as they come, especially if they've misled you into believing it's somehow legitimate. You've got an iphone either unlocked with dodgy software or imported from a different target market, given to you with a totally unrelated phone contract.

Please stop pretending it's anything else.

You would on the iPhone, because unlike most other phones it's actually quite pleasant and easy to use.

SwirlyMMS adds MMS functionality, but it's not very user friendly (yet). Sending messages is easy enough, but receiving them involves opening a file viewer and navigating to a folder to see the pictures.

Are jailbroken iphones able to use EDGE or data on non o2 networks?
I assume you mean Jailbroken/Unlocked/Activated, as just Jailbroken phones won't work at all on non-O2 networks.

I'm on Orange, I've had EDGE access once (due to crap coverage!). Data via GPRS works fine though, as long as you type in the right credentials for your network.

Is it really any easier than using the email on my N73?

Push the message button-one tap down on the joystick to go from SMS to email- input address of the recipient-write email, send.

Takes about 5 seconds longer than sending an SMS.

Same with checking emails:
Push message button, click down 3 clicks to inbox, click connect, see if you have any emails.

Not quicker to use, but an easier and more pleasurable experience. I've tried reading email on my N95 8Gb - rendered entirely in plain text and took an age to scroll through and read. Not really that useful.

My iPhone renders the whole email in the HTML it was sent in (if applicable), and you can zoom in on parts like you can with web pages.

iPhone > Take Picture. Click on icon at bottom of picture, choose "Email Photo" pick all your recipients and click send.

Takes no time at all, is free and is very functional. Its the interface into it that counts not the actual sending of the mail. And yes you would use it far more on the iPhone than any other in my finding.

As for checking emails, mine drags em down every 15 minutes and makes a noise+Vibrate to let me know.

N95 - press the camera button, take a picture - click on "send via", select email (or mms, bluetooth, infrared or post to web - note the iphone doesnt have these options) and send. "And yes you would use it far more on the iPhone than any other in my finding." No idea how you drew that conclusion! In actual tests carried out Symbian required less key presses to use functions than the iphone.

Look I am not knocking the iphone, it has a fantastic GUI and OS but iphone owners seem to get starstruck and continually brag, which is often misplaced -I just dont get it!

Ive just got an HTC touch for free on contract with T-Mobile, and i think its great. it has a kind of Iphone interface you can use, or stick to the usual WM6 Pro interface. it is very light, and slim too

Dont get the touch get either their version of the cruise, or the tytn II.

I am at the minute torn between the two.

but I've got till the 26th to decide (upgrade day, yay!)

Eh? Did you even read my post. There was nothing "starstruck" in there and there certainly wasnt any bragging.

Thats why I put "in my finding". Its an oppinion I have formed after using many different phones and smartphones. You dont have to agree with it, thats your call ;)

There is nothing misplaced about it. People who own iPhones generally really enjoy using them. As a result of this, they are very positive about them when they post.

its pretty common actually. people do tend to give the iphones all the praise and ignore the shortfalls.even something as simple as taking a photo and sending it, the reality is its no easier on the iphone than it is on the s60 nokias. you said it was the interface that counted - tbh its better my n95 in that respect.

its this bit i dont like. how are you supposed to draw any kind of conclusion when people aren't straight up with facts.
