So far the only thing that i can see is something that my phone does do is the webbrowser that displays the pages as normal and then you can zoom in. Im sure that idea will be pinched. ;)

I think you being a little short sighted;) - that phone is years ahead of any other. And imagine.. a bug free smartphone - at last!

Thing is this thing wont be out in Europe til Q4 and I'm quite sure by that time Nokia, HTC etc. will have something to rival it with a more impressive spec.

Most of you guys just dont get it at all. Most features that iphone is offering are new at all but its the ease of use and just sexiness that makes it so far ahead of other phones.

I mean how can people compare it to TyTN, how ridiculous is that? The TyTN is hard to use, sluggish, terrible touchscreen etc.

The N95 or (at a stretch the) p990i are the closest rivals to it - the N95 has a pretty good UI actually, however I am concered about buggy software and the p990i - fugly, brickish and buggy.

I just it makes Nokia and SE pull their fingers out, first step sort out the OS's Get rid of the bugginess and make it simple...fast.

ps apple have mentioned that between its release in Europe it may even have a 3g model ready.

I listen to 20 minutes of Radio 4 every morning and evening as I walk to work - in fact I listen to far more radio on my MP3 player than MP3s. I wouldn't buy an MP3 player without FM and I'm annoyed my phone (Treo 650) doesn't have FM.

Well personally and obviously for the majority (otherwise apple would have put one in) its not a priority. Why not just buy a mini £2 radio..

I hope it really takes off, all other current phones are pretty much monkey poo at the moment. Lets shake it up :D

Id be interested in battery life? All that bling has gotta suck some juice for sure?

5 hours talk time, video playback and internet browsing
16 hours music playback

I think the iPhone looks great, but I wouldn't buy one simply because it lacks a keypad. I think you need tactile feedback to make something easy and comfortable to use, and with only touchscreen controls, the iPhone lacks this completely. I'm a fast texter, and trying to type using a touchscreen would infuriate me no end.

Check out the vid I posted on the top of this page, it shows you the 'keypad', it looks pretty responsive and quick actually, it comes with error correction too.

So they say but ipods are notorious for poor battery life, especially when compared to the stated figures.

The ipods up to 3g didnt have the best battery life, after that they improved and often beat the stated figures. My 5g lasts very reasonably.

That doesn't prevent it from having no tactile feedback though. If I'm pressing a button, I like to feel that I'm actually pressing a button, i.e, some movement, and a click sound.

From a review site:

"Typing is difficult. The letter keys are just pictures on the glass screen, so of course there’s no tactile feedback.

Software helps a lot. You can afford to make a lot of typos as you muddle through a word, because the software analyzes which keys you *might* have meant and figures out the word you wanted. Its best guess appears just under what you’ve typed; if it’s correct, you tap the Space bar to accept it and continue. I typed a couple of e-mail messages with lots of typos but eventually 100 percent accuracy, thanks to this auto-correct feature. (My testing didn’t involve proper names, however.)"

Anyway, its not the fact that i hate apple that i am laughing at the phone, its just that its old hat tech (to me it seems that anyway). People can have their views on the device and i have mine.

On a parting note, i also now have an iPhone...

:D

lol:p

Its true the basic tech isnt new but the way it all comes together, that will just 'work' and combined with a huge screen is very new to the mobile industry. What I love about my ipod, is that it works so easily, never crashes and looks so great. And well thats what apple have done with the mobile. And who hasnt been waiting for this?? Windows Mobile and the latest symbian smartphones have so much wrong with them its not true! I am so so sick of mobiles crashing, being buggy, slow etc. Why the hell havent they got their acts together. Well they will have to now!:) No I dont know anyone that can possibly argue against this.

Your Ipod never crashes? you sir are very lucky :D

the iPhone isn't even going to be capable of 3g is it?

ok so its crashed a couple of times, but barely. I'd say it was as close to a flawless OS as you can get. At any rate compare it to the smartphone OS's - my god what a chasm.

The iphone may well be 3g for Europe...;) read earlier on in the thread. But that wasnt the point I was making.:)

Very expensive for a device that doesn't even have basics like 3G when an xda would cost much less doing the same thing.

I would much rather have the XDA flame.

xda-flame-lowres.jpg

3.6" Vga screen
Intel 520Mhz Cpu
Nvidia Goforce 5500Gpu
Wifi 802.11b/g
Bluetooth
IR
3G
2GB rom
64MB ram
Tv out
2Mp camera
FM Radio
Micro Sd Card Slot
And of course a removeable battery so it can be upgraded.

LOL

Built like a brick cant do that much more than the iphone and a terrible GUI, at any rate thats a pda not a phone. Even the N95 is better than that.

Lol, as soon as the fanboys see something better than their beloved apple product they start to attack. The phone isn't even out yet so how can you comment on it's gui when it's using custom software and say that it's built like a brick when it is exactly the same form factor the iphone is?

Eh? I mentioned that the N95 is better than that brick, its even out in Q1.;)

Most likely the GUI will not get anywhere near the iphone, I will bet anything on that. And excuse me? The same form factor!? Its huuge, its a brick! The iphone is a smaller in height, width and thickness -11.6mm its mini. How you can compare a pda to mobile phones like N95/iphone I just cannot see.

Energize said:
Since the flame isn't out you can't say something is better than it thats just stupid. Espically considering pda phones can do much more. Same form factor as in they are both pda shaped and the only real difference is the thickness, which isn't really much of a factor when it's in your pocket anyway, personally though I'd take build quality over size, we all know how apples previous products have been prone to scratching. Besides there are lots of pdas phones smaller than the iphone with 3g or hsdpa. The iphone isn't exactly small.

Well you cant compare the to really, 'the flame' is a pda not a phone, hence is faster but bulkier (2x the volume! 'same form factor'!??) and thickness is of huge importance, 11.6 is a very slim smartphone. In addition the flame most likely will not have as good OS, in addition how can you compare build quality when the iphone isnt even out.;) Part of the attraction of apple is the amazing build quality so apart from the nanos scratching Im not too sure your point holds up.

In addition the N95 wipes the pants off 'the flame';)
