iPhone

Opera.;) Which is widely regarded as the best browser for a phone

Opera was nice but the OS and hardware wasn't up to the task, e.g. adding, editing and removing bookmarks was slow and painful.

I don't notice the drop in resolution. The screen on the Diamond is too small to read anything when zoomed out. The Touch HD would be better though. I still love my Diamond though. Hasn't been turned on since I got the iPhone but still have the centre spot on my gadget shelf sat inb it's cradle :)

The HTC Diamond was a dog

That's been the case with all my previous WinMo devices (5+). Always a shortage of RAM and CPU power.

The devices have finally started to catch up this year but I got impatient when the 3GS was announced :). I will probably go back to a WinMo device when my 18 months are up, or even Android Superewza ;)

maybe we should have a sticky 'winmo haters'

I don't think anyone has said they hate WinMo, just that they prefer the iPhone having made the switch.

I haven't read a single post from anyone who has owned* and iPhone and swapped it for a WinMo device.

*owned being the key word, not played with for one a few mins.

If I hated WinMo I wouldn't have invested so much time and money over the last 7+ years. The iPhone isn't better than WinMo but when I want to take it out of my pocket and do something with it I can. With WinMo there was always an issue related to the app, firmware/os or hw. e.g. I would spend more hours trying to figure out why it would let me access my Samba shares to playback videos when it did the day before than watching anything. With the iPhone I use a couple of DLNA clients to stream videos and it works all the time.

That's pretty much exactly why I'm happy to be moving away. WinMo is fine if you're prepared to live with what is supplied (which I did, with the exception of adding Opera and more recently Google Maps), but once you start getting into third party apps all hell can break loose. First you have to actually find the damn things, then you have to install them (usually manually), and then you have to hope they actually work with your version of WinMo.

I'm looking forward to being able to say 'there's an app for that', picking it out from the app store, and just using it.

maybe not in this thread(or in as many words), but if you read many of the other 'what phone' and the like threads.

I gave up my HTC Touch HD and got an iPhone 3GS.

The iPhone is considerably overpriced, no doubt about it. But it is a really good user experience, and it just works. The whole package feels like it has been designed from the bottom up and it works so well. WinMo in comparisons feels like you get 25% of the deal, and then have to hunt around for the remainder. If you hunt long and hard enough, you might find more than 75%, but by then your contract will be up or you'll have spent more time updating your phone than using it.
