We now know that the iPhone 4 antenna attenuation issue is even smaller than we originally thought. A small percentage of iPhone 4 users need a case, and we want to continue providing them a Bumper case for free. For everyone else, we are discontinuing the free case program on all iPhone 4s sold after September 30, 2010. We are also returning to our normal returns policy for all iPhone 4s sold after September 30. Users experiencing antenna issues should call AppleCare to request a free Bumper case.

Is this the same for the UK ?

I assume so. It sounds like if you can prove you have a problem or kick up enough fuss you can still get a free one, they're just stopping automatic cases for people like me who had no issues but bagged a case anyway.

I was hoping for a case redesign before the 30th and that's why the program is ending but it looks like they're just gonna say "Screw you!" and stop the program. Not sure whether to get one now or hold out any more!

I'd put money on them having done a hush hush redesign on the antenna such that any phone sold after the 30th doesn't have any issues and thus doesn't need a case.

Maybe :D

Sounds about right, but there's little point in them being coy about it. Someone will reverse engineer it and find out if any design changes have been made to the newly manufactured models.

They always do it. If they don't they wouldn't be able to get rid of the old models. Stucks but that's business. I am willing to wait the two or three weeks and see what happens. I was gonna buy a different case anyways.

Because you can change the design of a device and not re-issue to the FCC for approval?

Tin foil hats guys? I hear it helps with the signal as well.

On receipt of my iPhone 4 I immediately signed up to the case program and chose the black bumper but later discovered that my iPhone 4 receiver did not work at all. I had to put all phone calls on speakerphone or use the headphones when making a phone call so I called Apple to get an advance replacement.

I got an advance replacement iPhone 4 and have now signed up to the case program again, this time choosing the incase snapcase clear. Apple also allowed me to choose items from the Apple store to the sum of £100 by way of compensation for the poor service I received from them because the advance replacement process was far from smooth because they made a number of mistakes.

It's nice of Apple to compensate me this way :)

Does anyone know if they will have bumpers for sale again after the free case program?

Bumpers will always be avaliable, i don't think apple will end the bumpers. They only started giving them away for free after the global antenna gate issue and that won't change really. The real question is will you need one if you purchase a new iphone4 after 30th september

I have no idea what you mean by this post. Are you saying to add some kind of non-conductive plastic over that small gap would require FCC approval?
