iPlayer no longer supported - stand-alone replacement iPlayer device??

Thanks all.

So I will:

1. try my Pi 3 with kodi - just to see until service actually ends.

Meanwhile:

2. investigate 4k Fire TV box as probable first choice as probably better support
3. possible android box as alternative to Amazon device.

As already said, most "HD" services are only broadcast at 720p.
So for an easy to use, cheap, catchup TV solution, the NOW TV box cannot be beaten.
I use one in the kitchen, have a Fire Stick in the bedroom and Openelec Nuc in the lounge.
If I asked my wife to use catchup TV on any of the devices, the only one she could use would be the NOW TV.

I am not sure, but maybe you can still get the 14 day trial and then apply any pass (you can also confirm that passes are valid without having to enable them)

Afterthought - possibly a movies trial

Doesn't the newer black now TV box support 1080p? the original white ones were 720p yes.

As for cancelling a Now TV sub, you simply log in to the Now TV website, go into account management and choose cancel plan. Whatever voucher you have currently running will continue to be valid until the date it expires so don't worry about losing out.

I never owned the white ones but I do have the black box. That gives me the options for 720 and 1080p.

I find BBC iplayer app on the older nowtv box is very lethargic, when you want it to pause or try and rewind; compared to that, the sky nowtv app is much more responsive -perhaps to be expected.

However even on a windows laptop nowtv also seems more responsive than iplayer - Dare I say it sky have better programmers.

But on a laptop the interface to both is different too, plus you have a mouse+keyboard and finding programs and jumping around in them is so much easier
(do any of the firetv type smart boxes give the same iplayer GUI as a windows laptop ? .. where you also have radio catchup)

Note the 720/1080 aspect of nowtv boxes was already discussed earlier in this thread - not another thread - this one
