I'm pretty interested in buying a new iPod, probably the 30Gb. I just rang the 0800 039 1010 number to see what discount I could get for being in higher education and the guy said there wasn't one.

Now is that correct or should I have said Further education? I'm at Uni and I've never understood the difference. But surely there is an educational discount? Or am I losing the plot?

Oh and I put the thread in this forum since this is where all the Mac lovers seem to hang out so I'm reckoning the iPod and education knowledge is quite high here.

i dont think any educational discounts are avalible on ipods anymore iirc it was scrapped when the new generation came in

That does seem to be the case doesn't it? The guy I spoke to wasn't very helpful, he just said there was no discount. It would have been nice if he'd said they got rid of it.

I never got any educational discount when I bought my iPod. I did get the discount on a MacBook at the time though, so you must not be able to get it on an iPod, but saying that, the refurb deals from the Apple website are generally decent.

I got one on mine. How strange. Just showed them my NUS card. This was the first iteration of the 5th Gen Ipods though!

Did you buy it instore? I did have an NUS card last year but I didn't renew it, didn't think it was worth the £10. However if I can get some money off an iPod through the NUS site it might save me more than the £10 for the new card. Any chance you could log in to the NUS site and see if you can still get the discount? I would but I seem to be in some kind of NUS login limbo. I have an account with them but not valid card so I can't achieve a full login.

You can't get the discount any more. It was shelved back in September(ish) when the new nanos were introduced.

To be fair the new iPods are a ton cheaper than the last generation, and the prices don't seem to be fixed to be the same price as the Apple store anymore, you can make pretty huge savings by shopping around.

Yeah, bought it instore. This was in april though, so going on what was said above this post, your probably best shopping around!

I did realise the new iPods were a fair bit cheaper for the capacities they offer compared to the older ones. 'Tis one of the reasons why I'm contemplating getting one. I'd quite like to get mine laser engraved on the back though. Make it a bit personal and if it gets nicked then its a bit weird having someone's name on it, if it gets sold on. Although the cheaper prices elsewhere might just swing it.

The education discount was scrapped on iPods and the prices were brought down to match the previous discount. This includes all forms of education discount.
