iPod - Firewire?

Just plugged my 60gb Video iPod into the £15 :mad:

firewire cable and it said

Firewire connections are not supported

. Is there a firmware update or am I stuck using USB ?

The new iPods are USB yes. The firewire cable fits but no luck using it.

The video iPod uses USB for charging + sync. FireWire is optional, but it cannot sync only charge.

Just use the cable that came with your iPod?

Ipods have always used firewire in the past, and USB support was an 'add-on'. Firewire is also consistently faster than even USB2, so it makes sense when transferring many gigabytes of data to use the fastest method.

Just put it down to bad luck mate.

I'd put it down to not reading the Apple store page about the cable, it says it doesn't work with nanos or the 5G iPods.

Why?

I got the USB/Firewire combi cable as I needed an extra cable - it was 7p cheaper than the USB only cable.
Teaches me to read up / google even when buying a cable
