Hey guys, I'm thinking of buying an iPod Touch for my mum's 50th birthday and was going to get it laser engraved.

Does engraving mean I'd have to wait longer for it to be delivered, and how reliable is Apple shipping (my MBP took a month to arrive but that was because I changed the base spec)?

I ordered an iPod nano with engraving for my daughter and it arrived the day after I ordered it. They quote three days for the engraving so I was really impressed that it arrived the next day.

Thanks for that :)

Will have a look at price while I'm on campus at University this evening after work - HE discount :D

I was about to post saying "Couldn't you buy something a bit less disposable than an iPod for her 50th" but then thought to myself how cool it would have been in the 80s if I had been given (and kept) a Sony Walkman with "Happy 18th" or something on it. :D

Had my iPod engraved, nearly 2 years ago now but remember it arriving more quickly than I expected.

Wish Apple did engraving for more than just iPods - I'd have had my iPhone and MacBook engraved if they offered it! Personalization done properly is great.

Ganks you when you come to sell it on though. Not so much a problem for an iPod, but when you come to upgrade your Macbook no one's going to want one with WAYNE written on the back, are they :p

If I was unfortunate enough to be called Wayne, I wouldn't have it written on my Macbook :P

Know what you mean though. Wasn't thinking about resale when I suggested it. When I bought this Macbook I went for the priciest one I could afford so that it would last me for a long time. When I come to want to replace it, it probably won't be worth much anyway, regardless of whether I'd had an awesome song lyric engraved on it or not :P

Thing is she's seen my iPod Touch and the whole YouTube/web browsing and music thing has tickled her interest ;)

I'm also looking into apps that allow you to connect to web radio stations, because she is a HUGE radio fan. She bought an internet radio (receiva based) a while ago and she loves that, so if she could have a mobile version (i.e. on iPod) then that would be great; most of the personal DAB radios I've seen are rubbish. So I'm not just thinking of buying it because it has "cool gadget" status ;)
