Ipod/MP3 docks

Hi there, after a bit of advice.

I have a logitech audiostation which i use in my room at uni with my laptop via the aux-in. Occasionally i use it for my ipod too. However for the past few months the display on it has been broken, and i get the occasional flicker of life, it works perfectly sound wise. Now i am back home i intend to ring the 'jungle' named retailer i brought it from and enquire about a refund or credit.

My question is, for around £100-150 which mp3 dock would you buy or recommend, i can stretch to more if it is worth the extra. Or should i look at some 2.1/5.1 systems with a 3.5mm jack? I was really impressed with the clarity and sheer volume and bass these little speakers produced, so am after something on par, if not better! Perhaps Bose is something to look into?

Any feedback or suggestions welcome.

Many thanks

Benny C

To say I'm not a fan of using an Ipod as a source would be an understatement and I'm not a fan of the speaker quality in these little docks either, but please, please, please don't look at BOSE; they are the devil's own audio company who fleece their customers at every turn and point.

I've seen a Fatman Itube with speakers for £200 (from £500) which is a good bet.

I am aware of Bose and their over priced, to say the least, products.

Ive seen logitech have brought out a new version of the audiostation, while i like having a small and compact system, I have the dilemma of a 5.1 system, which will probaly go a lot louder, and have much better clairty, such as the logitech z-5500, although i only have 2 3.5mm ports on my Vaio(one for headphones and one for an external microphone. So am not sure if they are compatible with my laptop.

From my PC I run from a 3.5mm jack to twin RCA into a Cambridge Audio A5 amp, which you can probably pick up for £50 second hand. Connected to that are a pair of Celestion F10 speakers, which you can probably get for £100 (or something similar) second hand.

I't not an elegant solution and it's not small, but it's going to sound better than the Logitechs. It will certainly go louder (never been past 50%) but that's not really what I look for.

Edit: Just seen the amp for £20+p&p and the speakers for £18+p&p one one source for second hand goods. Tempted to get them myself for the front room.
