iPod Nano dead - anything I can do?

Basically a friend of mine tried updating the software on her iPod nano, and unfortunately the computer crashed mid-update (I told her not to bother updating it for this exact reason...).

Now the software on the iPod seems navigatable, but the HDD wont spin up, the music is gone, and no computers will recognise it anymore

Is there anything that can be done? Or should I just get them to take it back and plead ignorance...

Any help and advice appreciated.

Has she tried updating the software again?

Tried, but the PC can't see it to update it

I've exhausted everything I can think of now resetting does nothing, think it'll have to go back
