My birthday is next week and my parents have very kindly offered to buy me a 30gb ipod.

Now, I do want an ipod but would my money be better spent on an acoustic guitar which was cost the same price?

I've played the guitar and been in bands in the past but stopped due to life matters. Eventually I do want to be a part of a band again but am currently guitarless. maybe this would be the perfect opportunity to aquire a free acoustic guitar to learn again but this time become a more accomplished guitarist.....or have my record collection on the move with an ipod?

To make the choice even more complicated, my girlfriend has offered me her acoustic guitar but theres oen problem...she lives in new york and I wont see her or her guitar until christmas.

The quesiton should be Guitar or other MP3 player other than iPod. But in either case if you can already play guitar then get a guitar if not then learn to play it and get cash instead.

Sandisk E250 2GB MP3/Video player for ~£90 and a guitar...

Ipod nano size, plays vids/wma as well as MP3, much better battery and cheaper.

Easy choice. The guitar.

An iPod can't make you the money to get the guitar. With the guitar you can go out busking/gigging; you'll have the double bonus of learning to play while making up the cash for the iPod.

Well, if you don't know the answer to that, how can anybody else possibly know?

ipod to be honest, personally I listen to mine going to and from work, whenever I'm going anywhere, sitting in starbucks reading the paper. you name it.

Guitar is nice but never as useful

Guitar is my vote. Gives much more entertainment valoue, and impresses your friends as well as the ladies.

Buy a cheap 2nd hand minidisk player for £25 off Ebay, solves your music problem.

Good thing I wasnt talking to you then :)

BTW check out some reviews it is quite a bit better than the Ipod Nano (which it competes with) in most respects, features, battery life, screen quality, price etc.

@dmpoole... I have an Ipod and there are far better players regarding the points mentioned above.
