Hi guys,

Just placed an order for a new and my first macbook, the uni-body aluminium 13.3 inch screen one. And i cant wait. :D

But i would like to be able to move over all my music/apps etc from iTunes on my PC or from my iPod Touch (synced with the PC currently).

Now, does anyone know the best way to go about doing this as this is my first Mac im not exactly sure how OS X operates. :(

Also would i need to reformat my iPod Touch or do something radical like that?

Any help is much appreciated and so is any tips for a newbie. ;)

Cheers

Blackhawk

:D

There are ways to move your itunes library about (something iv never done though)

The one thing i do know is that you'll end up having to reformat your ipod for osx (i think it'll automatically change it to hfs+ file system from ntfs)

Either way nice, im looking forward to the magic mac day later on this summer too :D

How big is your music collection?

If you get a network cable or firewire cable they can transfer from one mac to another, I believe it's one of the first things your new Macbook will ask you.

He's doing it from PC to Mac, so that's not going to work :)

The official Apple endorsed way is here but if you want to keep all your library tags, ratings etc. then have a gander at the lifehacker article here - seems simple enough, though I haven't done it personally, so I can't verify how easy it is.

Well thanks for the replies. :)

I suppose ill give the official apple way a go first, seeing as ive only got about 2gig or so of music and then some apps/a few hours of movies.

Cheers. :D

Set your Ipod up to allow disk access. Copy all your stuff to the Ipod. At this point you'll effectively have all your music and stuff on twice - once in the Ipod bit and once in the raw disk bit - this is fine. Open Itunes on the new mac and log in to your Itunes account to authorise the mac. Close Itunes. Plug the Ipod into your new mac and access the disk bit of your Ipod. Copy all the music there to your library on the macbook. Open Itunes and let it import all the stuff.

That's how I did it when I moved from my pc to my mac and it worked fine.

Sounds like a really good idea, ill definatly be giving that a go first at it seems the easy tha way.

Cheers.

I really cant wait until i get my Macbook. :D

Well i ended up doing it the Apple way as i couldnt seem to enable my ipod touch for disk use though i do remember how because ive done it on my nano and shuffle before. Anyway all went fine and i wasnt bothered about the ratings etc as i dont tend to give any. ;)

Oh and this new macbook is fantastic. :D

Plugged my iPod Touch into mac today, even though the iPod is still linked to the PC, I was able to view what music/movies/apps etc i had on it and charge the ipod (which is the main thing i need to do when i am on holiday.

However the separate tabs when you click on the iPod in iTunes were available but the options like sync music or photos was greyed out and unavailable. My iPod is also set to manually manage music/video which is probably why i wasnt asked or forced to reformat it. ;)
