My GF has recently got an iPod touch 8gb 3rd gen, it went a bit funny the other day and itunes wanted to restore it. It displays the connect to itunes on the sceen and itunes detects it as needing a restore, but when you try it starts to put the software on the little progress bar moves about 10% then it gives up. Itunes then gives a handy your ipod cant restore eroor no 14 or something like that, and it goes back to must restore your ipod. On itunes where it gives the ipod info it just list this as an ipod with no other info, the check for updates box is greyed out. When my old iphone had something like this a while back i just downloaded the previous ipsw from the net and that worked, with this i have no such joy. The 8gb 3rd gen isnt a 3rd gen ipod its a second gen one with a few changes but it seems it should use the 2nd firmware, i tried to install this but it tells me its not compatable with the ipod. Im pretty sure ive tried doing all the normal steps to recover, ive tried putting it in DFU mode, but that just seems to give me the same screen and result as it does normally and isnt DFU used only if itunes doesnt see the ipod or to force a restore? The ipod itself is only a week or so old so could i return to the shop as it doesnt work or is there something else i can do.
