I went to Newcastle over the weekend (from London) and I was pretty annoyed to find out once on the train I'd left my power charger back at home. I looked in the settings and since updating my iPod Apple have introduced a brightness setting. I turned it to the lowest it would go, so the backlight is literally just visisble. The iPod survived about 7x22 minute episodes of Family Guy and about 5 hours of music. It is still on 50% battery. This is an amazing improvement because it used to die after about 40 minutes of video.

Having said that, there were power outlets on the train up to Newcastle so If I remembered the charger I could have put the brightness on full and enjoyed it more.

This is the iPod video that came out exactly a year ago (60GB) updated with the latest software released last week.

Yup, just checked, never saw that before. Hopefull should be able to squeeze more life out of the battery now. :)

At the moment i turn backlight timer to 2 secs, brightness to lowest, no EQ, no clicker, no soundcheck. Anything else i can do to get a bit more life out of it? :p

That's exactly why iPod photo is the best because you can turn the backlight on and off anytime you need it. I just leave it off by default and only turn it on only when needed. Why didn't they implement this on new iPods, beats me  My battery last for 3-4 days with 2-3 hours of playing lossless per day in average.
Who would watch video on that tiny screen ?

You can turn the backlight on and off with the nano, photo, video and the newest generation.

You sure  How? By holding the "Menu" button? I tried it on iPod video and it didn't work  Very strange.

Settings > Backlight Brightness

Have the software all up to date of course first. Works a treat on my nano and 5g video :)

Oh, no, what I meant was turning the blacklight on and off by just simply holding the "Menu" button without having to choose Settings > Backlight Brightness > Backlight Off, way too much hassle.
So I believe there's no such function on new iPods then.
