As for VRR flicker I had that with old gpu as framerate was getting pretty low <60hz. But not an issue with 9070XT

IPS glow can be seen as uneven blacks- watch a movie and you can see it. Absolute junk lol

I'd say if VA can improve it's trailing I'd be happy with it. The angle thing isn't an issue with curved monitors.

Genuinely, I've never ever seen a VA look better, be it side by side in a shop display/at home in a real usage case environment - I was so underwhelmed for example, when I literally unplugged an IPS monitor, plugged in the new VA replacement (with all it's bold claims) and booted to the same wallpaper/desktop, and saw zero improvement, and thought, why am I selling my old one again?
As I always buy the replacement first then sell the old one on after, as it gives me a fallback to reject the replacement versus have to live with it if I've sold the old one - as I've burnt myself like that before lol.

I guess you missed my element of sarcasm/humour when 'ranting', it's not a rant, and I'm definitely not genuinely bitter, the polar opposite in fact dude :) I'm merely being slightly over the top/sarcastic/humorous, to empasize a point, whilst making people chuckle, I find that goes down better than being 'super serious' all the time with a god complex - however I'll apologize regardless, as I'm not wanting to come across as a bitter troll, anything but to be honest, I just want to inject some humour whenever possible, as it makes debating or learning more fun. But I appreciate that this is harder to illustrate with words versus speech :)

Ah, I've not had that experience with a movie luckily, be that on a TV or a monitor, I can see why that would be rubbish though.

As for curved monitors, I'd be rather alarmed to put it politely if a monitor I was sat infront of was incurring angle issues :cry: so I believe you that VA can at least get that right :P The angle is an issue on TV's though, which is a major issue for anyone with friends/multiple seating arrangements, which is usually, everyone lol.

As for edge lit, I've seen many FALD TV's and Edge lit, and both have their pro's and cons, let's be honest though with FALD, there really is never enough 'zones' regardless of your budget, so I find the marketing behind it being 'FULL' is misleading lol.

Align your expectations with what panel type suits you the best, find a decent retailer where easy returns and refunds can be done. The last bit is so very important due to the inconsistent quality applied when manufacturing monitors. That, generally, does mean you need the monitor Gods on your side when dealing with what is the panel lottery.








Oh, and avoid VA panels

Whichever one you like!

We're all gonna have our own opinions and use monitors for different things so it's really difficult to have an out and out 'best' monitor for everyone.

I've used all of the different panel types at this point, some I prefer to others but I think it's always going to be down to your own personal experience.

The AOC Q27G3XMN is a really well regarded VA Mini LED monitor, people seem to absolutely love that monitor and it does a good job at minimising the issues from VA - but I couldn't get on with it. I found it's response times didn't match what I wanted for the games I played.

Likewise I used the XG27AQMR, a 1440p 300hz IPS monitor from Asus and it just never felt 'right' to me. In comparison the cheaper mode (XG27ACS) that was 180hz felt so much better for me - but on paper everything should have been pointing towards the higher end model being better.

The annoying thing is that it's an expensive game of trial and error to find the right monitor for you.

There was a 34" Philips OLED recently for £400 which is nuts. I'm sure it was the best OLED ever but looks like pricing is getting better and I wonder if it would beat £400 IPS ?

Monitor or TV?
Their TV's are very poor (non OLED wise), I've never seen such a dim TV even with black out curtains :( which is a shame as they used to make decent CRT square TV's.
Philips OLED wise I've no idea though, aren't all OLED screens supplied by LG to be used in whoever's chassis, regardless of the brand selling it? I might be wrong, but I thought LG invented OLED/have the patent? So it's screen tech is licensed to others to use?

I'm guessing you don't find much in the way of legitmate reviews/ratings on Youtube/Google?
 
There are a few review on YouTube, I'd have bought one but I don't NEED it.
Tempted to buy another identical monitor for my main screen so I can get rid of the smaller, 1080P secondary screen I'm using and that would only cost me about £130, that's a big difference.

I have only tried a curved TV, and it was a strange experience, especially viewing it from the side, I just didn't 'get it'...

However, something this size, curved, sat this close, I get it :)

I have tried one of the those curved screens, a 34" size. It never really worked for me a an overall monitor. Games seemed "ok", not sure if I noticed increased reflections because of the curve or the super glossy finish on the screen.
But general Windows experience was not good for me. Certain lines and shapes seemed "off", perspective wise.
I think that it could have been a 1500r in terms of its banana bend.
I ended up refunding and eventually, as my additional monitor, got a flat 34" HP IPS UW.

Flat is where it's at.
 
I used 32" @ 1500R
When I got my new 27" IPS I would say any 'distortion' was worse. It isn't really distortion I guess, just a different angle and I don't really notice that any more. I can see that for me, using a curved single 34" instead of a 27" + 24" would be better but big curved monitors in my price range are usually VA (hey look at me, bringing the topic back! :D)

Yeah these are the kind of things that would bug me too and I don't see the point in having to 'live with'. Flat FTW.

It's whatever works for you the individual, but VA's can still do one :P:D
