Hello, me again (I can hear the groans of "oh no, not again").

For a 1440 140 or a 165 hz screen somewhere in the region of a 27, 32 or 34 Ultrawide, with multi purpose use work, games and streaming.

As I will be sitting face on, is an IPS panel still better than a VA panel?
Refresh rates are on par with each other and I have always had IPS as long as I can remember
but VA open up more options.

Should I stick with IPS?

Ive had an IPS for years and its nearly 10 years old. I have never noticed the glow on it. I'm probably not aware of it. I do watch a lot of movies and don't really notices the screen once I get in to it.
What I do pick up on my old PC is dark scenes having blocky dark backgrounds but that is probably due to the age of the card and an old screen.

Again I am leaning away from the 32, I have a feeling that sitting an arms length away, it may be too close and in my face.
I was thinking of the Gigabyte M28U as its 4K at 144hz. How is it for desktop size and clarity of text?
Today I am revisiting 27"s, I did recheck the 34 UWs and I still have this niggling feeling that to get what I want is expensive and will everything run? Even if older stuff has black bars, I can go with that but
if somethings will just crash I don't think its going to work. Also there seems to be more choice of 27s than 32s.

Still thinking that though the ultra wides are good for putting windows in a row, the extra height and width of a 32 at 144p may be more beneficial for productivity.
Maybe in a couple of years when scaling on a 4K is better I will consider 4k then but I don't do that much FPS games. Sometimes openworld games in single player or sometimes more strategy or FM2020 which is fairly
static, but I don't compete online such as counterstrike or CoD. I'd go to 170hz though.

Lot depends on what you mean by that arm's length:
Is it "can grab from sides of the monitor" (to adjust its position), or "finger tips just reaching monitor with arm and everything straightened"?

My average distance with 30" 16:10 (~same height as 32") is finger tips falling little short of reaching monitor.

Its an approximation. Its on my desk at an average desk width. Reason I am hesitant is text at 1440 is not as sharp as 1440 at 27" probably 50 to 60 cm away

Thats promising, I set my 27 to 1080p and even right up close, text in windows and word and browsing didn't look fuzzy or blocky.
If a 32 is 10 PPI higher, that should be better than expected.
I usually sit about 50-60 cm away

OK I am decided, its going to be a 27"
Anyone got any recommendations.
IPS
High refresh
Low bleed or whatever those things are
Good contrast rates.
I doubt its worth going for the 27" 4K M28U as the scaling is going to be bad.

Is it worth £200 for a higher for about 20 more hz? I know on some games my card can push a lot of hz certainly above 180 (from various reviews)?
I play some FPS but not competitively or online.
Defiantly needs to be IPS

you know, in the old days, buying a monitor was simple. You went out, bought one and plugged it in and you were grateful that you could run anything.
None of this advance mathematics business, calculating dpi, frame rates and nobody cared how many fps you got. Nowadays you need to be a scientist.

It'll come with an external power supply if it's anything like the model linked above, works on all voltages, though you'll likely need an adaptor or to replace the power cable going to the external power supply.
The 32GP850 is available in the UK already for around £499, too, if 32 inch is still a consideration :)

The 27" will be sharper, my only concern is how less sharp a 32" will be

I am learning there is a cost to everything.
32" has all the bells and whistles I want but is less sharp than a 27 and I am about 55cm from it. My arms don't reach the keyboard if I sit further back.
The 27 LG 27GL850 is a good price but old tech and also heard that the vesa mounting has too much of a curve on the casing to align a monitor arm fixing, so would need spacers and longer screws which is a botch job
The 27 LG 27GP850 is good and ticks the boxes but is unavailable in the UK and there will be a stampede getting one before everyone buys them up.
The Odyssey G7 looks good on paper but is a VA panel with its own issues.
The Asus VG27AQLA1 again looks good on paper but has a very aggressive anti ghosting, low contrast and IPS glow.

I can't believe there is not one thing that has what I want and is available
