Twitter stole the "hashtag" thing from IRC.
It's still used in some places. The military still use it. It's reliable, low demand and easy to set up in a closed/air gapped system. Unlike a lot of modern alternatives...
it seems speeded upWoooh that is a blast from the past, not heard that for a long long timeAlso a long time user of IRC, initially chat.virgin.net back when they were a dial up ISP and then later EFnet. Not ventured on in a very long time though.
ISDN?? cant hide money!Yep, I went from ISDN (BT Homehighway) straight to 2mbit ADSL, a revelation at the time!
ISDN?? cant hide money!
we had it when my dad's work was paying for it, fortunately wasn't more than a year or so later ADSL came along.I thought it meant TravelTime for journeys between physical meetings in Outlook…. Back before Microsoft Teams destroyed everything…….

Low ping *******!I remember ISDN being very good for low pings. Maybe better than what we have now!

Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 27ms, Maximum = 37ms, Average = 32ms

When I was living in London saw like 4ms on ADSL pinging game servers in Telehouse - even when I was back in the South West around 11-12ms. Personally I never saw ISDN under around 40ms or so though I know some people have had lower.
What is pretty crazy - where I am now on 4G I get a pretty stable ~30ms ping on EE though at this time of day it is a little more varied:
Sadly not as good on other networks - Vodafone in the same spot has lots of spikes even up to a second![]()
I get similar on Three 5g, but it varies wildly vs a physical link.
It's also sensitive to weather, number of nearby users (collisions), how fast the birds fly past the window, etc.
Yep. Spent a long time using ICQ as well. The chat roulette was always fun.
