Am going to give my 1098s a service next week. Usual things, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, clean the dust out of the clutch and so on. But also thought i might change the plugs at the same time. Now comes the dilemma, standard plugs or Iridium plugs ?
So the question is, who's used them, are they better than standard plugs and what if any difference did they make to your bikes running ?

I used them a few services ago and noticed absolutely no difference at all compared to the OEM NGK's I usually fit. I wouldn't bother with them again but that's just my opinion. I carry out a service on the Mille every 6 months and it gets the works done to it, oil, filter, plugs and the Evoluzione air filter gets a thorough cleaning and re-oiling. I do this myself ( there's nothing I don't know about these bikes after 8 years of ownership ) and the bike gets a "full dealer service" annually at it's MoT as well where I'll get my spanner monkey to check the valve clearances as and when required.

So basically, give them a go if you want but don't expect +10 bhp. :)

That was kinda my point but I didn't really explain it very well. I'm happier fitting new OEM plugs at every 6 month interval when the services get done than using Iridium plugs which are "supposed" to last longer and not tail off in performance as quickly. Fresh plugs, properly gapped are my preferred option. Even if that means like on the Mille, to get to the two in the front cylinders you need to be double jointed, have tiny hands and Jedi like powers of telekinesis to get the damn plug wrench to tighten them up.

I changed mine for a new irrid plug and the low rev range seems better.
Only a 125 mind but it has the twin ohc 4 valve engine and I would not go back to a standard plug.

Never bothered with them and seen race bikes with them and theyve not made much difference.

Jurys out for me

Hmm, I had them on my old CBR and they didnt make any difference. The replacement interval is lightly longer, only a few more quid more expensive.

Think i might just stick with the standard plugs then.
I had read that they need a slightly larger "gap" than normal plugs and this can cause the coils life to be shorter. If that's the case, i'd rather change the plugs more often than have to change the coils.

Always use iridium plugs, mainly due to the prelonged life. I track my GSXR and can i honestly say ive noticed a difference, erg no.. but they are only a little bit more expensive and wont harm. Ive not heard of anyones coil packs going due to iridium plugs but who knows.

So thanks to me, your none the wiser :)
