Iron Maiden have put one song from their upcoming album The Final Frontier up for a free download, as well as showing off artwork for the album, due for release on August 16th.

Sounds like Bruce Dickinson solo works meets Megadeth. Doesn't sound like Maiden at all not sure if its a good or bad thing. Needs more listens.

I just wish Steve Harris would learn another riff.


A little story for you.
I engineered Maiden around 79/80 and we were setting up Harris's bass gear.
I told my mate to play his bass with the amps on and there was this god awful sound where we thought we'd broke it.
Apparently, so he told us, his touch is that light that anybody else who touches it could blow his speakers.
 
I was really impressed with A Matter of Life and Death... Think it's a great album, so I'm hoping this'll be just as good.

Bit disappointed with the album cover though:

Hit the lights by Metallica, then Barracuda by Heart, then generic post 1990 Maiden.

The best thing about the song is Adrian Smith's solo (the 1st one). I can't help noticing how bad Gers' solo is. Just listen to it compared to the other two.

Wake me up when Janick and Maiden are no more.
 
Adrian is imo the lynch pin in Maiden. Dave and Janick just churn out the same solos. Dave's (the 2nd) is Ben Breeg, and Janick's noise copied from Brighter than a thousands suns.

Its no coincidence than Maiden were crap after Seventh Son when Adrian left up to when he came back.

Also I still think the production is awful God Knows why they pick Kevin Shirley, it sounds like im listening to it with cotton wool in my ears.

I'll be buying though lol.
