That's reasonably normal if the options for Legacy USB are disabled in the BIOS. It's called different things by different manufacturers though, I tried looking for your manual on the Abit website but couldn't find one.
 
I'm running out of ideas here, if you're using Akasa (or similar) SATA leads - try the ones that came with the motherboard.
 
CPU is the only thing I've no real way of testing.

I'm trying to install Windows again. This time I've got a Radeon X850 XT installed instead of my 8800.

Just getting the stupid board to POST was a challenge enough. Turn it on. Up it comes. Go into BIOS and make ONE SINGLE CHANGE - the boot device order - save. Machine powers off...... powers back up and immediatly powers off. And cycles doing just that. The only way to stop it is to reset the CMOS. Then it works. And lets me change the boot device order. Completely bizarre.

Oops, Windows Setup just Blue Screened again. No specific error message this time, just a generic STOP 0x0000007E error.

I'm out of ideas now.

I've tried using varying amounts of ram in all the slots. I've tried different graphics card. I've tried different PSU's. I don't understand it.

I'll put the Gigabyte DS3 back in in a sec. I mean, I know I was having HUGE problems with that but at least I could INSTALL WINDOWS with it :(
 
This board is just so bizarre. Half the time you change anything in the CMOS it'll refuse to post again - it just instantly powers off half a second after it powers on.

Then it'll either... never POST again until you reset CMOS, or if I do something like move a stick of memory... it'll POST :confused:

I just... want it to work :p
 
Well I've never seen a red windows setup screen before. Have now. 10% into copying files and... the blue setup screen turns red. Now its.. frozen.
 
I've now swapped the board out. I have the DS3 back in. All other components remain the same.

So far... I've actually got into Windows setup without having to use a PS2 keyboard. This is a big plus. We'll see how setup goes..

Bulging caps - nope, it's fine. As it should be given that the board is 4 hours old.

Due to Clarkey's post, having reading your posts again...did you had problems with both boards or is it a first time installing windows on DS3?
 
if you read his other thread, he had lots of problems with the other board, with games randomly going from fine to choppy as hell with skipping sound, and BSOD's, never trouble installing windows though.
 
I've had loads of problems with the DS3 but I've never had an issue installing Windows on it, ever. As further demonstrated this evening when it just installed first time..

Whereas I couldn't even get Windows onto the IP35-Pro.

It would appear that the choppy gameplay on the DS3 is actually an Nvidia driver bug in the 8800 experienced by other 8800 users.

Ok, have you tried other graphic card on Abit board? Just to make sure that this board is not ruled out.
