my 285 GTX does fine at 22"
It wouldnt be wasted, it would mean you could play newer games at higher settings for longer.
22" is great if you are sat right in front of it like I am.
Lol, 22in is definitely not too small for gaming. If anything, you can get better monitors for much more reasonable prices and the GPU is stressed less than at 1920x1200 - so you get better framerate and/or can turn up more details.
The decent non-TN monitors cost over £400 if you want them in 24in, but you can get the 22in ones for around £200 with similar quality panels.
I find 1920x1200 to be too big for the 22 inchers, stuff just looks a bit too small (IMHO) - 1680x1050 looks much better and running games at this res looks awesome and is less demanding.

I think 22" is the sweet spot for monitor sizes atm. I've been using one for about two years now and have never found myself thinking it's too small. The great thing about the 1680 x 1050 resolution too is that midrange graphics cards can cope fine with it so I can run cooler, quieter and cheaper cards. Going for a HD5850 would let you turn the Anti Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering to max at that resolution too!
tbh 22 inch is absolutely fine for gaming,im in competitive tf2 and i use the Syncmaster 2233bw (22") and its brilliant, gonna order a 28inch soonish so definetly not too small for gaming

I found moving from a 22in 1680x1050 to a 24in 1920x1200 quite disorientating to begin with, immersive is nice, but not being able to keep track of everything on screen made my personal performance drop. I think I'm more used to the higher resolution now.
Very very happy with my 22" at 1920x1080. Same res in a smaller space results in a sharper picture surely? Maybe small for some but 22" is/will be fine for me for a while yet.
