Recently moved and just setting up my living room, got a surround sound system sorted, now I'm after a new TV. Been looking at a Samsung smart TV.
Question is what size, I'll be sitting approx 2.8 meters from the TV which will be sitting on a bench, not wall mounted.
Will 40 inch be big enough? Other half says 46inch is too big but may be able to persuade her.

I think my 42" is too small for the room it's in - but the GF thinks that it's massive.

Whatever size you get, you'll eventually get used to it, and wish that it was bigger!

I have a 64 Inch and sit around 2 metres from the TV. It looked huge to begin with but it's surprising how quickly you get used to it. It's perfect for watching films, coupled with the surround sound it's better than the cinema imho.

Get the biggest you can get away with (Think I'm going to go 75" in a few years once OLEDs get cheaper)

owner of a 51" and a 50" and i can't get any bigger than the 50" in the bedroom, but would love a 60"+ in the future in the living room, in fact the bigger the better.

You want at least 55" if sitting that far away(2.8m)(9feet), having just a 40" you will not see the benifits of full hd, infact 6 feet away is good for a 55" screen, max about 8.7feet for thx spec or 7.5feet away for SMPTE

Having had a 50" plasma for 4 years nearly now (bought it not long before the last world cup) I don't think I'd like to go back to anything smaller but when needs must ...

A 60" set would be a sweet size I think.

Thanks for the replies, think it's going to have to be a 46 incher, I'll never get anything bigger past the other half, I keep on saying big is better but she's the only woman I know that doesn't agree!

Viewing distance is more important than size, 40-46" sounds about right. I'm saying that as I sit 3.5m away from a 32" by the way, soooo jealous :)

I don't know if all Samsung tvs are as bad as mine, but the smart tv is utter crap(crashes, doesnt work, etc), so much so, i got an xbox 360 to make the smart tv smart. Its only a 26" samsung for the bedroom, so not the most expensive. But its also far to dark, so dark a loot of dark scenes are unwatchable.
The Samsung in the living room is old, but has horrible ghosting, in sane amount of light bleed etc.

Not sure i would trust another Samsung, without a lot of personal recommendations.

I got the sony 46" 3D smart tv and originally was going for 32" glad I got the bigger one which now feels small but it's perfect for our size house!

I will say go for quality first size second.

All this smart tv stuff is crap!

Use the console for it.

Agree that all the smart TV stuff is nonsense. I'd rather they either knocked a few quid off the price, or fitted a slightly better panel. Surely most people with a half decent set up just need a single HDMI input and nothing else.

Smart TV, dozens of inputs, built in speakers... all a waste of time. I'm surprised some of the manufactures don't make a line of TVs that do away with all the extras and focus purely on getting the best panel as possible in the box for the given price point.

No probs with my 2...did spend some time setting them up though. Smart functions are fine, never had a crash unless there is no internet connection, at which point it complains mightily. And for those saying get a console not everybody wants another box in the living room. It's all relative, I'd rather keep the gaming elsewhere thanks...
